For behold, darkness covers the earth,
and deep gloom the peoples;
but the light of the LORD rises upon you,
and his glory appears over you.

Nations shall come to your light,
and kings to the brightness of your rising.
4
Lift up your eyes and look around;
they all gather and come to you;
your sons come from far away,
and your daughters are carried in the arms.
5
Then you shall see and be radiant;
your heart shall thrill and swell with joy,
because the abundance of the sea shall turn to you,
and the wealth of the nations shall come to you.

A multitude of camels shall cover your land,
young camels of Midian and Ephah.
All of them shall come from Sheba,
bringing gold and frankincense,
and proclaiming the praises of the LORD.

All the flocks of Kedar shall be gathered to you,
the rams of Nebaioth shall be at your service;
they shall be offered on my altar as an acceptable sacrifice,
and I will glorify the house of my glory.

Who are these that fly like a cloud
and like doves to their dovecotes?

Surely the coastlands wait for me;
the ships of Tarshish come first,
to bring your sons from far away,
their silver and gold with them,
for the name of the LORD your God,
and for the Holy One of Israel, because he has glorified you.
10
Foreigners shall build up your walls,
and their kings shall serve you;
for in my wrath I struck you,
yet in my favor I have had mercy on you.
11
Your gates shall be open continually;
day and night they shall not be shut,
so that the wealth of the nations may be brought to you,
and their kings led in procession.
12
For the nation and kingdom that will not serve you shall perish;
those nations shall be utterly laid waste.
13
The glory of Lebanon, the cypress, the plane tree, and the pine,
shall come together to you,
to adorn the place of my sanctuary;
for I will glorify the place where my feet rest.
14
The children of those who oppressed you
shall come bending low to you,
and all who despised you
shall bow down at the soles of your feet;
they shall call you the city of the LORD,
Zion, the Holy One of Israel.
15
Instead of your former state,
when you were forsaken, hated, and with no one passing through,
I will make you an everlasting pride,
a joy from generation to generation.
16
You will suck the milk of nations
and drink the milk of kingdoms;
then you will know
that I, the LORD, am your Savior,
and your Redeemer, the Mighty One, the God of Jacob.
17
Instead of bronze I will bring gold,
and instead of iron I will bring silver,
instead of wood, bronze,
and instead of stones, iron;
I will give peace and righteousness
that will guard and order your life.
18
No more will there be news of violence in your land,
of ruin or destruction within your borders;
you will call your walls “Salvation”
and your gates “Praise.”

The sun will no longer be your light by day,
nor will the light of the moon give you brightness by night,
but the LORD will be your everlasting light,
and your God will be your glory.
20
For you the sun will no longer set,
and the moon will not wane,
because the LORD will be your everlasting light,
and the days of your mourning will end.

All your people will be righteous;
they will possess the land forever;
they are the shoot of my planting,
the work of my hands,
that I may display my glory.

The least will become a mighty clan,
and the weakest a strong nation;
I, the LORD, will accomplish it swiftly

Isaiah 60 is a chapter of great hope. After the previous chapter rebuked sin and showed spiritual downfall, now the Lord declares His promise of restoration, glory, and His light over His people. Jerusalem will rise as a center of spiritual light for the world — not because of its own strength, but because the glory of the Lord has risen upon it. All nations will come bringing wealth, and the name of the Lord will be exalted forever. This is a prophetic picture of the kingdom of God revealed in the Messiah.
