Thus says the LORD: “Do not learn the way of the nations, and do not be dismayed at the signs of the heavens, though the nations are dismayed at them.
3
For the customs of the peoples are vanity. Is it not a tree cut from the forest, the work of a craftsman with the chisel of a carpenter?

They adorn it with silver and gold; they fasten it with nails and hammers, so that it may not move.
5
It is like a scarecrow in a cucumber field, and cannot speak; it must be carried, for it cannot walk. Do not fear it, for it cannot do evil, and it cannot do good.”

There is none like You, O LORD! You are great, and Your name is great in might.
7
Who would not fear You, O King of the nations? For this is Your due; for among all the wise men of the nations and in all their kingdoms there is none like You!

They are all alike brutish and foolish; the instruction of idols is but vanity, for it is only wood. —
9
Beaten silver is brought from Tarshish, and gold from Uphaz; the idol is the work of a craftsman and of the hands of a goldsmith. Their clothing is violet and purple cloth, all the work of skilled men. —
10
But the LORD is the true God; He is the living God and the everlasting King. At His wrath the earth trembles, and the nations cannot endure His indignation.

Thus you shall say to them: “The gods who did not make the heavens and the earth shall perish from the earth and from under these heavens.”

It is He who made the earth by His power, who established the world by His wisdom, and who stretched out the heavens by His understanding.
13
When He utters His voice, there is a roar of waters in the heavens; He makes the clouds rise from the ends of the earth, He makes lightning with the rain, and brings out the wind from His storehouses.
14
Every man is proved stupid, without knowledge; every goldsmith is put to shame by his image, for his molten image is falsehood, and there is no breath in them.
15
They are vanity, a work of mockery; in the time of their punishment they shall perish.
16
Not like these is He who is the portion of Jacob, for He is the one who formed all things, and Israel is the tribe of His inheritance; the LORD of hosts is His name!

Gather up your bundle from the land, O you who are under siege!

For thus says the LORD: “Behold, this once I will sling out the inhabitants of this land, and I will distress them, that they may feel it.” —
19
Woe is me because of my hurt! My wound is grievous, and I said, “Ah, this is a pain I must bear!”
20
My tent is ruined, and all my cords are broken. My children have gone from me and are no more; there is no one to stretch out my tent again or to set up my curtains. —
21
For the shepherds have become foolish, and they have not sought the LORD; therefore they have not prospered, and all their flock is scattered.
22
A report is heard, behold, it comes: a great commotion out of the land of the north, to make the cities of Judah a desolation, a dwelling place of jackals.
23
I know, O LORD, that the way of man is not in himself, nor is it in man who walks to direct his steps.
24
Correct me, O LORD, but in due measure; not in Your anger, lest You bring me to nothing.
25
Pour out Your wrath upon the nations that do not know You, and upon the families that do not call on Your name; for they have devoured Jacob, yes, they have devoured him and consumed him, and have made his dwelling place desolate.
