The word of the LORD came to Jeremiah a second time, while he was still confined in the court of the guard, saying:

“Thus says the LORD, who made the earth, who formed it and established it— the LORD is his name—:
3
Call to me, and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things, which you do not know.
4
For thus says the LORD, the God of Israel, concerning the houses of this city and concerning the houses of the kings of Judah that are torn down to make a defense against the siege ramps and the sword:
5
They are coming to fight against the Chaldeans, and the city shall be filled with the dead bodies of men whom I have struck down in my anger and in my wrath, for I have hidden my face from this city because of all their evil.
6
Behold, I will bring to them health and healing, and I will heal them and reveal to them abundance of peace and security.
7
I will restore the fortunes of Judah and Israel, and will rebuild them as at the first.
8
I will cleanse them from all the guilt of their sin against me, and I will forgive all the guilt of their sin and of their rebellion against me.
9
And this city shall be to me a name of joy, a praise and a glory before all the nations of the earth, who shall hear of all the good that I do for it. They shall fear and tremble because of all the good and all the peace that I provide for it.
10
Thus says the LORD: In this place of which you say, “It is a waste, without man or beast,” in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem that are desolate, without man, without inhabitant, and without beast,
11
there shall again be heard the voice of joy and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride, the voice of those who say:
Give thanks to the LORD of hosts,
for the LORD is good,
for his steadfast love endures forever!
as they bring thanksgiving offerings into the house of the LORD. For I will restore the fortunes of the land as at the first, says the LORD.

Thus says the LORD of hosts: In this place that is waste, without man or beast, and in all its cities, there shall again be pastures for shepherds to rest their flocks.
13
In the cities of the hill country, in the cities of the lowland, in the cities of the Negeb, in the land of Benjamin, around Jerusalem, and in the cities of Judah, flocks shall again pass under the hands of the one who counts them, says the LORD.”
14
“Truly, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when I will fulfill the promise I made to the house of Israel and the house of Judah.
15
In those days and at that time I will cause a righteous Branch to spring up for David. He will execute justice and righteousness in the land.
16
In those days Judah will be delivered, and Jerusalem will dwell in safety. And this is the name by which they will be called: The LORD is our righteousness!
17
For thus says the LORD: David shall never lack a man to sit on the throne of the house of Israel!
18
And the Levitical priests shall never lack a man before Me to offer burnt offerings, to burn grain offerings, and to make sacrifices continually.”
19
The word of the LORD came to Jeremiah, saying:

“Thus says the LORD: If you can break My covenant with the day and My covenant with the night, so that day and night no longer come at their appointed time,
21
then My covenant with My servant David may also be broken, so that he shall not have a son to reign on his throne; and likewise My covenant with the Levites, the priests who minister to Me.
22
As the host of heaven cannot be numbered and the sand of the sea cannot be measured, so will I multiply the offspring of My servant David and the Levites who minister to Me.”
23
The word of the LORD came to Jeremiah, saying:
24
“Have you not noticed what these people are saying: ‘The two families that the LORD chose, He has rejected them’? In this way they despise My people, and regard them as no longer a nation.
25
Thus says the LORD: If I have not established My covenant with day and night and the fixed order of heaven and earth,
26
then I will surely reject the offspring of Jacob and My servant David, so that I will no longer raise up from his descendants rulers over the descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. For I will restore their fortunes and have compassion on them.”
🌿🔓📖 Summary of Jeremiah 33 – The Promise of Restoration and the Light of the Coming King
Jeremiah 33 is a continuation of the “Book of Consolation”, and contains God’s beautiful promises of complete restoration for Judah and Israel. While Jeremiah was still imprisoned and Jerusalem was under threat of destruction, the LORD gave a vision of a bright future: the city would be rebuilt, the people would be purified, and the “Righteous Branch” from David’s line (a messianic prophecy) would reign in justice. The LORD also affirms that His promise to David and Levi is everlasting, like day and night that never fail to come.
📌 1. The Call to Pray and the Promise of Divine Answer (verses 1–3)
“Call to Me, and I will answer you…”
➡️ In prison, Jeremiah received an extraordinary promise from the Lord: pray, and the Lord will reveal great things that we do not yet know.
🎯 Prayer opens the door to revelation, even in difficult times.
📌 2. The City Will Be Restored and Cleansed (verses 4–9)
“I will heal and cleanse them from all their guilt…”
➡️ Though the city will be destroyed, the Lord promises:
- It will be rebuilt
- He will forgive the sin of His people
- The name of the Lord will be glorified among the nations
🎯 True restoration is the restoration of both body and spirit.
📌 3. Joy and Worship Will Return (verses 10–11)
“The sound of the bridegroom and the bride will be heard again…”
➡️ The silent city will live again, with the sound of joy and worship.
➡️ “Give thanks to the LORD of hosts…” will be sung again.
🎯 Praise is a sign that the Lord is present and restoring.
📌 4. The Lord Will Rebuild Everything (verses 12–13)
“The shepherd’s place will be there again…”
➡️ Flocks and normal life will return to the cities of Judah.

📌 5. A Shoot from David Will Appear (verses 14–18)
“I will cause a righteous branch to spring up for David…”
➡️ A promise of the righteous and true Messiah, from the line of David.
➡️ The Levitical priests will also serve continually before the Lord.
🎯 This is a prophecy about Jesus Christ, the righteous King and eternal Priest.
📌 6. God’s Promise Like the Laws of Nature (verses 19–26)
“As day and night cannot be revoked…”
➡️ God’s promise to David and Levi will not fail, for it is as firm as the laws of creation.
➡️ Even though Israel is temporarily rejected because of sin, the Lord will still restore and love them.
🎯 God’s faithfulness does not depend on human obedience alone — His love is everlasting.
