There are those who move boundary stones; they seize flocks and pasture them.

They drive away the donkey of the fatherless, and take the widow’s ox as a pledge,

they push the poor off the road; the afflicted of the land are forced to hide together.

Indeed, like wild donkeys in the wilderness, they go out to their work, seeking food in the desert for their children.

They gather fodder in the field, and glean the vineyard of the wicked.

They spend the night naked, without clothing, and have no covering in the cold;

they are drenched by the heavy rains of the mountains, and because there is no shelter, they cling to the rock.

between the rows of olive trees they make oil; they tread the winepress while thirsty.

From the city the groans of the dying are heard, and the cries of the wounded, yet God pays no heed to their prayer.

There are others who are enemies of the light, who do not know its ways and do not remain in its paths.

At dawn the murderer rises; he kills the poor and needy, and at night he acts like a thief.
15
The adulterer waits for dusk, thinking, ‘No eye will see me’; and he covers his face.
16
In the dark they break into houses; by day they shut themselves in; they do not know the light.
17
For deep darkness is morning to all of them, and they are familiar with the terrors of darkness.
18
They are swept away on the surface of the waters; their portion is cursed in the land; they no longer go to their vineyards.
19
As drought and heat consume the snow waters, so Sheol does to those who sin.
20
The womb forgets him; worms feed on him; he is remembered no more. Unrighteousness is broken like a tree.
21
He preys on the barren woman, who bears no child, and does no good to the widow.
22
Yet by His power He drags away the mighty; when He rises up, no one is secure of life.”
23
God gives him security, and he rests on it; and His eyes are on their ways.
24
They are exalted for a little while, and then are no more; they are brought low, and wither away like all things; they are cut off like the heads of grain.
25
If it is not so, who will prove me a liar and make my words nothing?”
🌍⚖️🕯️ Summary of Job 24 – “Why Does God Allow Evil to Happen?”
In Job 24, Job continues his rebuttal of his friends’ theology, which reduces suffering to a direct result of sin. He speaks of the real and ongoing presence of evil in the world: oppression, robbery, murder, injustice — yet the Lord seems silent and lets it be.
Job is not accusing God of being evil, but he honestly asks: Why is evil not judged at once? Here Job gives voice to the inner cry of believers who are confused by an unjust world.
📌 1. Why Are the Wicked Not Punished at Once? (verses 1–12)
➡️ Job says that God appoints a time, yet evil keeps happening:
- The wicked move boundary stones (steal property)
- They seize the livestock of widows and orphans
- They force the poor to work like animals
- They do not give clothing, food, or justice
➡️ “They cry out… but God does not regard the wrongdoing.”

📌 2. Evil in the Middle of the Night (verses 13–17)
➡️ Job names three groups of wrongdoers:
- Murderers – lying in wait for victims on the road
- Adulterers – slipping about at night
- Thieves – working in the dark

🎯 Evil is often done in secret, but Job knows God is not blind.

➡️ Job believes that though it may be slow, the wicked will not endure forever
- They will be swept away like a flood
