Then Job answered the LORD:

I know that You can do all things, and that no purpose of Yours can be thwarted.
3
You said: Who is this that hides counsel without knowledge? Therefore I have spoken of things too wonderful for me, and which I did not know, without understanding.
4
You said: Hear now, and I will speak; I will question you, and you shall make known to Me.
5
I had heard of You only by the hearing of the ear, but now my own eye sees You.
6
Therefore I retract my words, and I repent in dust and ashes.
7
After the LORD had spoken these words to Job, the LORD said to Eliphaz the Temanite: My anger burns against you and against your two friends, because you have not spoken rightly about Me, as My servant Job has.
8
Therefore take seven bulls and seven rams, and go to My servant Job, and offer them as a burnt offering for yourselves; and let My servant Job pray for you, for only his prayer will I accept, so that I do not deal with you according to your folly, because you have not spoken rightly about Me, as My servant Job has.

So Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite went and did as the LORD had commanded them. And the LORD accepted Job’s prayer.

Then the LORD restored Job’s fortunes, after he had prayed for his friends, and the LORD gave Job twice as much as he had before.

Then all his brothers and sisters and all his former acquaintances came to him and ate with him in his house. They showed him sympathy and comforted him concerning all the calamity that the LORD had brought upon him, and each one gave him a piece of silver and a gold ring.

The LORD blessed Job’s latter days more than his beginning; and he had fourteen thousand sheep, six thousand camels, a thousand yoke of oxen, and a thousand female donkeys.

He also had seven sons and three daughters;
14
and he named the first daughter Jemimah, the second Keziah, and the third Keren-happuch.

In all the land there were no women so beautiful as Job’s daughters, and their father gave them an inheritance among their brothers.
16
After this Job lived one hundred and forty years; and he saw his children and his children’s children, even to the fourth generation.
17
Then Job died, old and full of years.

Job 42 is the closing chapter of the book of Job — a very moving chapter, full of repentance, restoration, and the glorifying of God.
After hearing the voice of God directly, Job acknowledged his limits and repented in dust and ashes.
The Lord then rebuked his friends, received Job again, and in the end restored his life twofold from before.
