Blow the trumpet in Zion, and cry out on My holy mountain! Let all the inhabitants of the land tremble, for the day of the LORD is coming; for it is near,

a day of darkness and gloom, a day of clouds and thick darkness; like dawn spread over the mountains, a great and mighty people comes, such as has never been from of old, nor will there be again after them through the years to come.

Before them fire devours, and behind them a flame burns. The land before them is like the garden of Eden, but behind them a desolate wilderness, and nothing at all escapes them.

Their appearance is like horses, and like war horses they run.

Like the noise of chariots, they leap on the tops of the mountains; like the crackling of a flame devouring stubble; like a mighty people set in battle array.

Before them peoples are in anguish; all faces grow pale.

Like warriors they run, like soldiers they climb the wall; each goes on his way, and they do not turn aside from their paths;

they do not crowd one another, each goes on his own path; they burst through the defenses with spears, and they do not break ranks.

They rush into the city, they run upon the wall, they climb into the houses, they enter through the windows like a thief.

Before them the earth quakes, the heavens tremble; the sun and the moon grow dark, and the stars withdraw their shining.

And the LORD utters His voice before His army. For His camp is very great, and He who carries out His word is mighty. Great indeed and very terrible is the day of the LORD! Who can endure it?

“Yet even now,” declares the LORD, “return to Me with all your heart, with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning.”

Rend your heart and not your garments; return to the LORD your God, for He is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love, and He relents concerning disaster.

Who knows whether He will turn and relent, and leave behind a blessing, a grain offering and a drink offering for the LORD your God.

Blow the trumpet in Zion; consecrate a fast; proclaim a solemn assembly;

gather the people, consecrate the congregation, assemble the elders, gather the children, even the nursing infants; let the bridegroom come out of his chamber, and the bride out of her bridal room;
17
let the priests, the ministers of the LORD, weep between the porch and the altar, and say, “Spare your people, O LORD, and do not make your own inheritance a reproach, so that the nations should mock them. Why should they say among the peoples, ‘Where is their God?’”

Then the LORD became jealous for his land, and he had compassion on his people.
19
The LORD answered and said to his people: “Behold, I will send you grain, wine, and oil, and you will be satisfied with them; I will no longer make you a reproach among the nations.
20
I will remove the northerner far from you, and drive him into a dry and desolate land, with his front toward the eastern sea and his rear toward the western sea; and his stench and foul smell will rise, because he has done great things.
21
Do not fear, O land; be glad and rejoice, for the LORD has done great things!
22
Do not fear, you beasts of the field, for the pastures of the wilderness are becoming green; the tree bears its fruit, the fig tree and the vine yield their strength.
23
Be glad, O children of Zion, and rejoice in the LORD your God! For he has given you the early rain in righteousness, and he has poured down for you rain, the early rain and the latter rain, as before.
24
The threshing floors shall be full of grain, and the vats shall overflow with wine and oil.
25
I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten, the hopping locust, the devouring locust, and the stripping locust, my great army which I sent among you.
26
You shall eat in plenty and be satisfied, and you shall praise the name of the LORD your God, who has dealt wondrously with you; and my people shall never again be put to shame.
27
You shall know that I am in the midst of Israel, and that I am the LORD your God and there is no other; and my people shall never again be put to shame.
28
“Then afterward it shall come to pass that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, and your young men shall see visions.
29
Even on the male servants and female servants in those days I will pour out my Spirit.
30
And I will show wonders in the heavens and on the earth: blood and fire and pillars of smoke.

The sun will be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the coming of the great and terrible day of the LORD.
32
And it shall come to pass that whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved; for in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there shall be deliverance, as the LORD has said, and among the remnant whom the LORD calls.
