When the angel Gabriel came to Mary with an extraordinary message, she was only a simple young girl from Nazareth. There was nothing worldly remarkable about her. Yet through Mary, God chose to bring forth the greatest plan of salvation: the birth of Jesus Christ, the Savior.
Mary’s response was so amazing. She could have refused, felt unworthy, or feared the social risks of her time. But what came from her lips were words of faith: “I am the Lord’s servant; may your word to me be fulfilled” (Luke 1:38). This is obedience born from trust, not from human logic.
Many of us often want to know every detail before we are willing to step forward. We ask, “What if I fail? What if I can’t do it?” But Mary, though still young, teaches us that trusting God means surrendering even when we do not understand His whole picture.
Mary’s story reminds us that age, status, or life circumstances never limit God from using someone. God is not looking for the strongest person, but for the one most willing to trust. As written in Proverbs 3:5, “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.”
Trust does not mean we are never afraid. Mary surely felt anxious. Yet she chose to place her confidence in God’s word. When we dare to trust in the midst of uncertainty, we are opening the way for God to reveal His power.
This also applies to our daily lives. Perhaps there is a calling, an opportunity, or a trial that feels too great for us to bear. But if young Mary could say “yes” to God’s plan, can’t we also learn to say “yes” in our present situation? Trust means taking a step even when we cannot yet see the whole road.
Like a small seed of faith, our trust in God will grow stronger each time we choose to surrender control. In the end, Mary was not only a simple young girl, but became part of the greatest story because she believed.
Lord, I learn from young Mary to trust in Your word, even though I do not yet understand all Your plans. Help me not to lean on my own strength, but to live in faith and obedience to You. Teach me to say “yes” to Your will. Amen.
