Then Jesus entered the synagogue again. There was a man there whose hand was withered.

They watched Jesus closely, to see whether He would heal him on the Sabbath, so that they might accuse Him.

Jesus said to the man with the withered hand, “Come here and stand in the middle!”

Then He said to them, “Which is lawful on the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil, to save life or to kill?” But they kept silent.

He was grieved by the hardness of their hearts, and with anger He looked around at them and said to the man, “Stretch out your hand!” He stretched it out, and his hand was restored.

Then the Pharisees went out and immediately plotted with the Herodians against Him, how they might put Him to death.

Then Jesus withdrew with His disciples to the lake, and a great crowd from Galilee followed Him. Also from Judea,

from Jerusalem, from Idumea, from beyond the Jordan, and from the region of Tyre and Sidon, many people came to Him after hearing all that He was doing.

He told His disciples to have a boat ready for Him because of the crowd, so that they would not press in on Him.

For He healed many, so that all who had diseases were crowding around Him to touch Him.

Whenever the evil spirits saw Him, they fell down before Him and cried out, “You are the Son of God.”

But He sternly warned them not to make Him known.

Then Jesus went up on the mountain. He called those whom He wanted, and they came to Him.

He appointed twelve to be with Him and to be sent out by Him to proclaim the gospel

and to have authority to drive out demons.

These are the twelve whom He appointed: Simon, to whom He gave the name Peter,

James the son of Zebedee, and John the brother of James, to whom He gave the name Boanerges, which means sons of thunder,

then Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James the son of Alphaeus, Thaddaeus, Simon the Zealot,

Then Jesus went into a house. Again the crowd gathered, so that they could not even eat.

When His family heard about it, they went out to take Him, for they said, “He is out of His mind.”

And the scribes who came down from Jerusalem said, “He is possessed by Beelzebul,” and, “By the ruler of demons He drives out demons.”

Jesus called them to Him and spoke to them in parables: “How can Satan drive out Satan?”

If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand,

and if a household is divided against itself, that household cannot stand.

And if Satan has risen up against himself and is divided, he cannot stand, but has come to an end.

But no one can enter a strong man’s house and plunder his goods unless he first binds the strong man. Then he may plunder his house.

I tell you truly: all sins and blasphemies of the children of men will be forgiven, yes, all the blasphemies they speak.

But whoever blasphemes the Holy Spirit has no forgiveness forever, but is guilty of an eternal sin.”

He said this because they were saying that He had an unclean spirit.

Then His mother and His brothers came. While they stood outside, they sent someone to call Him.

A crowd was sitting around Him, and they said to Him: “Look, Your mother and Your brothers are outside, seeking You.”

He answered them, saying: “Who is My mother, and who are My brothers?”
