(31-2) In You, O LORD, I take refuge; let me never be put to shame. Deliver me in Your righteousness,

(31-3) incline Your ear to me; make haste to rescue me! Be for me a rock of refuge, a strong fortress to save me!

(31-4) For You are my rock and my fortress; and for Your name’s sake You will lead and guide me.

(31-5) You will bring me out of the net they have hidden for me, for You are my refuge.

(31-6) Into Your hand I commit my spirit; You redeem me, O LORD, faithful God.

(31-7) You hate those who worship worthless idols, but I trust in the LORD.

(31-8) I will rejoice and be glad in Your steadfast love, because You have seen my affliction; You have taken notice of the distress of my soul,

(31-9) and have not given me into the hand of the enemy, but have set my feet in a broad place.

(31-10) Be gracious to me, O LORD, for I am in distress; my eye wastes away with sorrow, and my soul and body also.

(31-11) For my life is spent in grief, and my years in sighing; my strength fails because of my affliction, and my bones grow weak.

(31-12) Because of all my adversaries I have become a reproach, especially to my neighbors, and an object of dread to my acquaintances; those who see me in the street flee from me.

(31-13) I am forgotten like one who is dead; I have become like a broken vessel.

(31-14) For I hear many whispering—terror on every side!—as they scheme together against me, plotting to take my life.

(31-15) But I trust in You, O LORD; I say, “You are my God!”

(31-16) My times are in Your hand; deliver me from the hand of my enemies and from those who pursue me!

(31-17) Make Your face shine upon Your servant; save me by Your steadfast love!

(31-18) O LORD, let me not be put to shame, for I call upon You; let the wicked be put to shame; let them be silent in Sheol.

(31-19) Let lying lips be mute, which speak arrogantly against the righteous with pride and contempt!

(31-20) Oh, how abundant is Your goodness, which You have stored up for those who fear You, which You have done for those who take refuge in You, before the children of men!

(31-21) You hide them in the shelter of Your presence from the plots of men; You keep them safe in a dwelling from the strife of tongues.

(31-22) Blessed be the LORD, for He has shown His steadfast love to me in a marvelous way in a time of distress!

(31-23) In my confusion I had thought, “I have been cut off from before Your eyes.” But indeed You heard the voice of my plea when I cried out to You for help.

(31-24) Love the LORD, all you who are loved by Him! The LORD preserves the faithful, but the proud He repays in full measure.

(31-25) Be strong, and let your heart be firm, all you who hope in the LORD!

Psalm 31 is a deeply personal and emotional psalm of David, written in a situation of heavy pressure and threat to life. He cries out to God as his refuge, expressing faith and complete surrender, even while he is in the midst of humiliation, betrayal, and loneliness.
