(44-2) O God, with our own ears we have heard; our fathers have told us the deeds You did in their days, in days of old.

(44-3) You Yourself, with Your hand, drove out the nations, but these You let grow; You afflicted the peoples, but these You let spread abroad.

(44-4) For not by their sword did they take possession of the land, nor did their own arm bring them victory; but Your right hand and Your arm and the light of Your face, because You were pleased with them.
