Psalms 62 – Peace and Trust in God

1
For the choirmaster. According to Jeduthun. A Psalm of David.

(62-2) Only near God is my soul at rest;
from Him comes my salvation.

2
(62-3) He alone is my rock and my salvation,
my fortress; I shall not be moved.

3
(62-4) How long will you rush upon a man,
to break him down, all of you,
like a leaning wall, like a tottering fence?

4
(62-5) They only plan to cast him down from his high place;
they delight in lies;
with their mouth they bless,
but in their heart they curse. Selah

5
(62-6) Only for God let my soul be at rest,
for from Him comes my hope.

6
(62-7) He alone is my rock and my salvation,
my fortress; I shall not be moved.

7
(62-8) On God rests my salvation and my glory;
the rock of my strength, my refuge, is God.

8
(62-9) Trust in Him at all times, O people;
npour out your heart before Him;
God is our refuge. Selah

9
(62-10) Men of low estate are but a breath,
men of high estate are a lie;
in the balances they go up;
they are together lighter than a breath.

10
(62-11) Put no trust in oppression,
and set no vain hope on robbery;
if riches increase,
set not your heart upon them.

11
(62-12) Once God has spoken;
twice have I heard this:
that power belongs to God,

12
(62-13) and to You, O Lord, belongs steadfast love.
For You render to every man according to his work.

🕊️🙏📖 Summary of Psalm 62 – “Only in God Am I at Rest”

Psalm 62 is a psalm of trust filled with calm and surrender. David declares that God alone is the one on whom he depends, not man, not wealth, and not strength. In the midst of pressure, betrayal, and human deceit, David chooses to be still and wait for the Lord.

This psalm teaches about true spiritual calm — born from knowing the Lord as rock, salvation, and refuge.

📌 1. My Soul Is at Rest Only in God (verses 1–2)
➡️ “Only near God is my soul at rest; from Him comes my salvation.”
➡️ David calls the Lord his rock, salvation, and fortress.

🎯 True peace does not depend on circumstances, but on whom we lean upon.

📌 2. Attack from the Deceitful (verses 3–4)
➡️ The enemy seeks to bring David down with lies and hypocrisy.
➡️ They bless with their mouth, but curse in their heart.

🎯 The world may be deceitful, but the Lord never changes and can be trusted.

📌 3. Speaking Calm to One’s Own Soul (verses 5–7)
➡️ “Only for God, O my soul, be at rest…”
➡️ David counsels himself to keep hoping in the Lord.

🎯 Calm is often a decision, not a sudden feeling.

📌 4. God Is the Refuge of His People (verse 8)
➡️ “Trust in Him at all times, O people… pour out your heart before Him.”

🎯 The Lord is not only a personal refuge, but the refuge of all His people.

📌 5. A Warning about the Uncertainty of Man and Wealth (verses 9–10)
➡️ Man is but a breath; riches can deceive.
➡️ Do not hope in violence, oppression, or wealth.

🎯 Life’s stability does not come from the world, but from God.

📌 6. God Alone Is the Source of Strength and Steadfast Love (verses 11–12)
➡️ “One thing has God spoken, two things have I heard: that power belongs to God, and that steadfast love belongs to You, O Lord.”

🎯 The Lord is mighty and full of mercy — the perfect combination for a true refuge.

📖 Main Teaching

  • True peace comes when we depend wholly on the Lord
  • Enemies may threaten, wealth may deceive, but the Lord remains faithful and mighty
  • We need to preach to ourselves: “Be still, only toward God.”
  • The Lord is the place where hearts are poured out, not only the source of answers
  • Power and steadfast love are the foundation of unshakable faith
