(64-2) Hear my voice, O God, in my complaint;
preserve my life from the dread of the enemy.

(64-3) Hide me from the secret counsel of the wicked,
from the tumult of those who do iniquity,

(64-4) who sharpen their tongue like a sword,
who aim bitter words like arrows,

(64-5) to shoot at the blameless from hiding places;
suddenly they shoot at him, and are not afraid.

(64-6) They hold fast to an evil purpose;
they talk of laying snares secretly;
they say, “Who will see them?”

(64-7) They devise wrongs:
“We have planned a cunning scheme; it is finished.”
Deep are the inward thoughts and the heart of man!

(64-8) But God will shoot at them with an arrow;
suddenly they shall be wounded.

(64-9) He will make them stumble because of their tongue;
all who see them will shake the head.

(64-10) Then all men will fear,
and will tell of the work of God,
and ponder what he has done.

(64-11) Let the righteous rejoice in the LORD
and take refuge in him;
let all the upright in heart glory.

Psalm 64 is David’s prayer for protection from enemies who secretly devise evil plans. His foes shoot with words, full of craft and deceit. Yet, David trusts that the Lord himself will repay and expose their schemes.
This psalm shows the contrast between human evil plans and God’s sure justice, which will surely act.
📌 1. A Plea for Protection (verses 1–2)
