how excellent is Your name in all the earth!
Your majesty is set above the heavens.

You have established strength because of Your adversaries,
to silence the enemy and the avenger.

(8-4) When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers,
the moon and the stars, which You have ordained:

(8-5) what is man, that You are mindful of him?
And the son of man, that You care for him?

(8-6) Yet You have made him a little lower than God,
and have crowned him with glory and honor.

(8-7) You made him to have dominion over the works of Your hands;
You have put all things under his feet:

Psalm 8 is a remarkable song of praise from David, exalting the greatness of God over His creation, especially the wonder that human beings — small creatures in the universe — are given honor and authority by God.
This psalm opens and closes with a cry of praise:
“O LORD, our Lord, how excellent is Your name in all the earth!”
Amid the majesty of the universe, God chooses to entrust the earth to mankind. This declares the grace of God, the dignity of man, and points to Jesus Christ as the perfect Man who restores that honor.
