A Psalm of Asaph.
God standeth in the divine assembly; in the midst of the gods he judgeth:

“How long will ye judge unjustly, and show favour to the wicked?” Selah

Give justice to the weak and to the fatherless; maintain the right of the afflicted and the needy!
4
Rescue the weak and the poor; deliver them out of the hand of the wicked!”
5
They know not, neither do they understand; they walk on in darkness; all the foundations of the earth are shaken.
6
I said, “Ye are gods, and all of you are children of the Most High.
7
Nevertheless, ye shall die like men, and fall like one of the princes.”
8
Arise, O God, judge the earth; for thou shalt inherit all nations.

Psalm 82 is a striking psalm of judgment — written by Asaph — that shows God standing in the midst of the divine assembly, and judging the “gods” (rulers, judges) because they do not deal justly with the poor and the oppressed.
They are called “gods” because they bear divine authority, yet they have misused it for their own gain. In the end the Lord declares: “Ye shall die like ordinary men.”
This is a stern rebuke and a warning that all human power is temporary and must give account to God.
📌 1. God Stands in the Midst of the Assembly (verse 1)
