In every election season, a question that often arises among believers is: should Christians stay neutral in political choices, or should they actively support certain candidates? This question matters because politics can affect people’s lives, and our attitude as Christians should never be careless.
Christians and Citizenship
The Bible teaches that we have two citizenships. Paul wrote, “For our citizenship is in heaven” (Philippians 3:20). Yet on the other hand, Jesus said, “Give to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s” (Matthew 22:21).

- Prayer for leaders: “I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people—for kings and all those in authority” (1 Timothy 2:1-2).

The Danger of Political Fanaticism

Jesus once said, “I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves” (Matthew 10:16). This attitude also applies in the political world. Christians must not be naïve, but neither should we be cunning. We must remain wise and sincere, so that our presence can be a light to society.
