In a world growing louder with opinions, new normals, and changing social standards, being right according to God’s Word often means being unpopular. We live in a society that often says, “Follow your heart,” or “As long as I’m happy,” while the Bible teaches something contrary to that current.
God’s truth never adjusts to trends. In John 17:17, Jesus said, “Sanctify them by the truth; Your word is truth.” This means true truth is only found in His Word, not in majority opinion or cultural logic. But this kind of truth is not always pleasant to hear.
Being right before God can make us appear old-fashioned, stubborn, or even fanatical. But that is often the price to pay to remain faithful. In Galatians 1:10, Paul wrote, “Am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ.” We cannot please everyone and God at the same time.
Jesus Himself is the perfect example of truth that is unpopular. He disturbed the comfort of the Pharisees, exposed spiritual hypocrisy, and spoke with sharp honesty. Many people eventually left Him because His words were too harsh. But Jesus did not compromise. He knew that true truth is more important than temporary popularity.
Do not be afraid to be different if it means being faithful to God. In an age when compromise is considered wise, steadfastness is often seen as stubbornness. But that is exactly where the light shines brightest, when darkness grows deeper. In Matthew 5:10, Jesus said, “Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”
God does not call us to be popular, but to be holy. Not everyone will understand your life decisions based on God’s Word. But do not waver. Truth will always prevail, even if sometimes it must walk alone.
Remain faithful even if alone. Because it is better to stand alone in truth than to be in a crowd in error.
