Struggling with the Same Sin Again: Is Forgiveness Still Possible?

Have you ever felt frustrated because you keep falling into the same sin, again and again? You have asked for forgiveness, promised to change, but then slipped in the same place. Then the quietest question arises: “Does God still want to forgive me?”

The answer is: Yes. He still forgives.

In 1 John 1:9 it is written, โ€œIf we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.โ€ There is no indication that this verse applies only to a single mistake.

God knows our struggles. He knows that we are not yet perfect. Even Peter, a disciple very close to Jesus, once asked, โ€œLord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? Up to seven times?โ€ Jesus answered, โ€œI tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.โ€ (Matthew 18:21-22).

If God teaches us to forgive continuously, isnโ€™t He more than able to do the same?

However, this does not mean we can remain in sin and abuse grace. True repentance is not only feeling guilty but also being willing to keep fighting to change. Sometimes the process is long, and falling and rising is part of the journey.

What matters is: never stop coming to God. Embarrassed? Yes. But donโ€™t run away. Because the only place of restoration is His embrace, not distancing yourself from Him.

Remember: God never tires of forgiving, but often we grow weary of asking for forgiveness. Let us come again and again. His grace never runs out.
