Sometimes we feel too small to make a difference. The world is so vast, the problems so many, and we are just โone ordinary person.โ Yet, the Bible is full of stories of how God used one person to change history.
Look at Moses. He was only a shepherd who initially resisted Godโs call because he felt he was not good at speaking. But through Moses, God delivered the nation of Israel from slavery in Egypt (Exodus 3:10-12). Just one obedient person, and an entire nation was saved.
Or Nehemiah. He was only the kingโs cupbearer, not a military leader or a great prophet. Yet because his heart was broken seeing the walls of Jerusalem in ruins, he prayed, fasted, and acted. One person with a heart burning for God can raise a nation from ruin (Nehemiah 1:4-11).
Even Jesusโ disciples were initially just simple people: fishermen, tax collectors, ordinary people without great reputations. But because of the power of the Holy Spirit, they shook the world, and the Gospel continues to spread to this day (Acts 1:8).
Jesus Himself said in Matthew 5:14, โYou are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.โ In other words, one person who is willing to live in the light of Christ can become a light that cannot be ignored.
Maybe we think, โI donโt have an important position, I donโt have many abilities, what can I do?โ The key is not how big or small we are, but how willing we are to be used by God. John 6:9 tells of a little boy who only had five loaves and two fish. It seemed insignificant, but in Jesusโ hands, it became a miracle that fed thousands.
Today, do not belittle yourself. One person can bring great change if he or she is willing to be used by God. Even the prayer of a righteous person, according to James 5:16, โis powerful and effective.โ
God is looking for a heart that is willing to say, โHere am I, send meโ (Isaiah 6:8). Not because we are perfect, but because Godโs power is made perfect in our weakness.
Lord, so often I feel too small and insignificant. Yet today I believe You are able to use one person to do great things. Make me Your vessel, use my life to be a blessing to others. Amen.
