Every time the calendar turns, this big question rises in the hearts of many believers: “Lord, what do You want from my life this year?” It is a question that is not only important, but also reveals a longing of the heart to walk in His will. But often, that question is not answered immediately with a voice from heaven. Instead, God leads us to reflect more deeply, listen more carefully, and live more obediently.
God’s will is not always about the big things, but about faithfulness.
Many people wait for a ‘great mission’ from God, when His will may be simple: forgive someone, be more patient with family, or restore a quiet time that has long been a mess. In Micah 6:8 it says, “He has shown you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you but to act justly, to love faithfulness, and to walk humbly with your God?”
This verse is not only a guide, but the foundation of a believer’s life:
1. Act Justly
God longs for His children to be honest, not take advantage of others, and have the courage to speak the truth. Perhaps this year you will be given greater responsibility, and justice will be tested there. Will you choose what benefits yourself, or stay on the right path?
2. Love Faithfulness
Faithfulness is not only about being loyal to a spouse or a job, but also to spiritual commitment. Do you still seek God when your prayer has not yet been answered? Do you still read the Word when you do not feel like you are “getting anything” from it? God values a faithfulness that is not sensational, but consistent. “Whoever is faithful in very little is also faithful in much” (Luke 16:10).
3. Walk Humbly Before God
Humility means realizing that God knows what is best. This year, your plans may not go as expected, but that does not mean God has failed. In the midst of a change in direction, you learn to trust Him fully. “Trust in the LORD with all your heart…” (Proverbs 3:5). Not with part of your heart, but with all of it.
God is not looking for perfect people this year. He is looking for people who are willing to be shaped, obedient, and faithful in what God has entrusted to them. Perhaps you do not know everything right now, and that is okay. What matters is, each day you come to Him and say: “Lord, use me today.”
Do not wait for a great calling. Be obedient in small steps, and you will see God’s hand guiding you farther than you can imagine.
