Failure often feels like a door slammed shut in our faces. Especially when that failure is not the first, but has happened many times. We begin to think, “God must be tired of me.” Yet, the truth is that God’s love is not measured by the number of our successes or failures, but by who He truly is. Psalm 145:8 reminds us, “The LORD is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and rich in love.”
The Bible is full of examples of people who fell, but were lifted up again by God. Peter, for example, once denied Jesus three times (Luke 22:61-62), something he himself had promised he would never do. Yet Jesus did not cast Peter away. After His resurrection, Jesus instead restored him and entrusted him with a great mission (John 21:15-17). God does not only see our failures; He also sees the potential and calling He has placed within us.
When we fail, we often become fixated on shame and fear of repeating it. But God calls us to rise, learn, and keep walking with Him. Proverbs 24:16 says, “for though the righteous fall seven times, they rise again.” This verse does not mean we are free to fall carelessly; rather, it shows that the righteous are not defined by how little they fail, but by their willingness to rise again in God’s grace.
If you ask, “What if I fail again?” God’s answer is, “My love remains the same. My grace is sufficient for you.” (2 Corinthians 12:9). God is more interested in shaping our character through the journey than in demanding perfection from the start. He does not leave us in the middle of the process.
So do not give up just because you are afraid of repeating your mistakes. Every time we return to God with a heart willing to learn, we discover that He is always there, ready to lift us up and lead us again.
Lord, thank You because You do not give up on us even though we fail so often. Help us to learn from every mistake, not to give up, and always return to You. Teach us to see ourselves as You see us: precious and worthy because of Your love, not because of our achievements. In the name of the Lord Jesus we pray, amen.
