If the Bible is truly the word of God, why was it written by ordinary humans? Shouldn’t God Himself have written it to avoid any mistakes? This question is very natural and often arises, especially for those who are seeking the truth or are just beginning to read the Bible. But precisely through this question, we can gain a deeper understanding of how God works through humans.
God Works Through Humans
From the very beginning of creation, God chose to work through humans. He did not create this world and then leave it alone, but involved His creation in His plan. The same goes for the writing of the Bible. The Bible was written by about 40 authors from various backgrounds—kings, prophets, farmers, doctors, fishermen, even tax collectors. But all of them wrote with one common thread: guidance from the Holy Spirit.
2 Timothy 3:16 says, “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.” This verse shows that although human hands wrote the text, the content comes from God’s inspiration.
Divine Inspiration, Not Word-for-Word Dictation
It is important to understand that the Bible is not the result of “direct dictation” from God like an automatic typewriter. God gives inspiration, and the writers recorded it according to their context and language style, yet still within the overall will of God. This is also what makes the Bible very alive, because it is written from the human perspective of those who personally experienced encounters with God.

Precisely Because It Was Written by Humans, the Bible Becomes Relatable
If the Bible were written directly by God in the form of a flash of light in the sky, people might find it difficult to feel connected to it. But because it was written by humans who also experienced suffering, joy, failure, and restoration, the stories in the Bible become very relevant to our lives today.
For example, many Psalms were written by David during his dark times. Paul’s story was written from behind prison bars. All of this allows us to say, “If they could hope in God amid suffering, then I can too.”
God’s Word, But Through a Human Vessel
So, don’t be confused when you learn that the Bible was written by humans. Because God designed it that way. Just as Jesus, who is God, became human, God’s word also became real through the human words He used. This is not a weakness, but a strength. Because God is not far away up in the clouds, but present and speaking through the lives of the people He chose.
