Woe to the rebellious and defiled city, the city full of oppression!

She listens to no one’s warning and accepts no correction; she does not trust in the LORD and does not draw near to her God.

Her officials within her are roaring lions; her judges are wolves at evening, leaving nothing until morning.

Her prophets are reckless and treacherous men; her priests profane what is holy, they do violence to the law.

But the LORD is righteous within her; he does no wrong. Morning by morning he brings his justice to light; it never fails at dawn. Yet the unjust know no shame!

“I have cut off nations; their corner towers are in ruins. I have laid waste their streets, so that no one passes through. Their cities have been made desolate, with no one there, no inhabitant.

I said, ‘Surely now she will fear me, she will accept correction; then her dwelling would not be cut off according to all that I appointed against her.’ But they were eager to make all their deeds corrupt.

Therefore wait for me,” declares the LORD, “for the day when I rise up as a witness. For my decision is to gather nations and assemble kingdoms, to pour out upon them my indignation, all my burning anger; for in the fire of my jealousy all the earth shall be consumed.”

“For then I will give to the peoples purified lips, that all of them may call on the name of the LORD and serve him with one accord.

From beyond the rivers of Cush my worshipers, my scattered ones, will bring an offering to me.

On that day you will not be put to shame because of all your rebellious deeds against me; for then I will remove from among you your proud, exulting ones, and you shall no longer be haughty on my holy mountain.

But I will leave in your midst a humble and lowly people, and they shall seek refuge in the name of the LORD,

the remnant of Israel. They shall do no wrong and speak no lies; no deceitful tongue will be found in their mouths. Indeed, they shall graze and lie down, and no one shall make them afraid.”

Sing aloud, O daughter of Zion; shout, O Israel! Rejoice and exult with all your heart, O daughter of Jerusalem!

The LORD has taken away the judgment against you; he has cleared away your enemy. The King of Israel, the LORD, is in your midst; you shall fear disaster no more.
16
On that day it shall be said to Jerusalem: “Do not fear, O Zion; let not your hands grow weak.
17
The LORD your God is in your midst, a mighty one who saves. He will rejoice over you with gladness; he will renew you in his love; he will exult over you with loud singing,
18
as on a day of festival.” “I will remove the disaster from you, so that you will no longer bear reproach because of it.
19
Behold, at that time I will deal with all who oppress you. And I will save the lame and gather the outcast, and I will make them a praise and a name in all the earth.
20
At that time I will bring you home, at the time when I gather you together; for I will make you renowned and praised among all the peoples of the earth, when I restore your fortunes before your eyes,” says the LORD.

→ Just as the Lord dwells among His people and wipes away their tears (Zef 3:17).
