Hiram, king of Tyre, sent messengers to David, along with cedar wood, masons, and carpenters, to build a palace for him.

Then David knew that the LORD had established him as king over Israel, for his rule was highly exalted because of Israel his people.

David took more wives in Jerusalem, and he fathered more sons and daughters.

These are the names of the children born to him in Jerusalem: Shammua, Shobab, Nathan, Solomon,

Ibhar, Elishua, Elpelet,

Nogah, Nepheg, Japhia,

Elishama, Beeliada, and Eliphelet.

When the Philistines heard that David had been anointed king over all Israel, all the Philistines came up to seize David. But David heard of it, and he went out to meet them.

When the Philistines came and made a raid in the Valley of Rephaim,

David inquired of God, “Shall I go up against the Philistines, and will You deliver them into my hand?” The LORD answered, “Go up; I will deliver them into your hand.”

So he went up to Baal Perazim, and David struck them down there. David said, “God has broken through my enemies by my hand, like water breaking through.” Therefore the name of that place was called Baal Perazim.

The Philistines left their gods there, and by David’s command they were burned up by Israel.

When the Philistines raided the valley again,

David again inquired of God, and God answered, “Do not go up after them, but make a circuit around them, so that you may attack them from the direction of the balsam trees.

And when you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the balsam trees, then you shall go out to battle, for God has gone out before you to strike the army of the Philistines.”

And David did as God commanded him, and they struck down the army of the Philistines, from Gibeon to Gezer.
17
Then the fame of David went out into all the lands, and the LORD brought the fear of him upon all nations.
