Then for the service, David and the commanders appointed the sons of Asaph, the sons of Heman, and the sons of Jeduthun. They prophesied with the accompaniment of harps, lyres, and cymbals. The list of those who served in this ministry is as follows:

All these were sons of Heman, the king’s seer, according to the promise of God to exalt his horn in strength; for God had given Heman fourteen sons and three daughters.

All these were under the direction of their father in singing in the house of the LORD, with cymbals, lyres, and harps for the service of the house of God, according to the king’s instruction. Thus it was with the sons of Asaph, Jeduthun, and Heman.

Their number, together with their brothers who had been trained to sing to the LORD — all of them skilled men — was two hundred eighty-eight.
