1
Samuel, the young boy, was serving the LORD under Eli’s supervision. In those days the word of the LORD was rare; visions were not frequent.

At that time Eli, whose eyes had begun to grow dim and who could not see well, was lying down in his bed.
3
The lamp of God had not yet gone out. Samuel was lying down in the temple of the LORD, where the ark of God was.

Then the LORD called, “Samuel! Samuel!” and he answered, “Yes, father.”
5
So he ran to Eli and said, “Yes, father, did you call me?” But Eli said, “I did not call; go back and lie down.” So he went and lay down.
6
And the LORD called Samuel again. Samuel got up and went to Eli and said, “Yes, father, did you call me?” But Eli said, “I did not call, my son; go back and lie down.”

Now Samuel did not yet know the LORD; the word of the LORD had not yet been revealed to him.
8
And the LORD called Samuel again, a third time. He got up and went to Eli and said, “Yes, father, did you call me?” Then Eli understood that it was the LORD who was calling the boy.
9
So Eli said to Samuel, “Go and lie down, and if He calls you, say, ‘Speak, LORD, for Your servant is listening.’” Then Samuel went and lay down in his place.

Then the LORD came and stood there, and called as before: “Samuel! Samuel!” And Samuel answered, “Speak, for Your servant is listening.”

Then the LORD said to Samuel, “Look, I am about to do something in Israel that will make the ears of everyone who hears it tingle.
12
At that time I will carry out against Eli everything I have spoken concerning his house, from beginning to end.
13
For I told him that I would judge his house forever because of the sin he knew about: his sons were blaspheming God, and he did not restrain them!
14
Therefore I have sworn concerning the house of Eli that the guilt of Eli’s house shall never be removed by sacrifice or by offering forever.”
15
Samuel lay down until morning; then he opened the doors of the house of the LORD. Samuel was afraid to tell Eli the vision.
16
But Eli called Samuel and said, “Samuel, my son.” He answered, “Yes, father.”
17
Eli said, “What was it that He told you? Do not hide it from me. May God do so to you, and even more, if you hide from me even one word of all that He told you.”
18
Then Samuel told him everything, and hid nothing from him. And Eli said, “He is the LORD; let him do what seems good to him.”
19
And Samuel grew, and the LORD was with him, and let none of his words fall to the ground.
20
And all Israel from Dan to Beersheba knew that Samuel was established as a prophet of the LORD.
21
And the LORD appeared again in Shiloh, for the LORD revealed himself in Shiloh to Samuel by the word of the LORD.
🌟👂📣 Summary of 1 Samuel 3 – God’s Call to Samuel
1 Samuel 3 records the remarkable moment when God called Samuel for the first time. In the stillness of the night, God’s voice came to a child who did not yet know Him personally. This is the beginning of Samuel’s prophetic calling that would change the history of Israel. Meanwhile, Eli, as the senior priest, began to step back from his spiritual role.
