Solomon gave orders to build a house for the name of the LORD and a royal palace for himself.

And Solomon conscripted seventy thousand laborers, eighty thousand stonecutters in the mountains, and three thousand six hundred overseers to supervise them.

Then Solomon sent word to Huram, king of Tyre, saying: “Do for me as you did for my father David, when you sent him cedar timber, so that he could build himself a palace to live in.
4
Behold, I am about to build a house for the name of the LORD my God, to consecrate it to Him, so that fragrant incense may be burned before Him, the showbread may be set in order continually, and burnt offerings may be offered morning and evening, on Sabbaths and new moons, and at the appointed feasts of the LORD our God; for this is a duty for Israel forever.

And the house that I am building will be great, for our God is greater than all gods.

But who is able to build a house for Him, since heaven and the highest heaven cannot contain Him? And who am I, that I should build a house for Him, except as a place to burn offerings before Him?
7
Now therefore send me a skilled man to work in gold, silver, bronze, iron, purple cloth, crimson cloth, and violet cloth, and one who is also skilled in engraving, to help the craftsmen who are with me in Judah and in Jerusalem, whom my father David appointed.

Send me also cedar, cypress, and algum wood from Lebanon, for I know that your servants are skilled in cutting timber from Lebanon. My servants will work with your servants

to prepare for me a great quantity of timber, for the house that I am building will be great and marvelous.
10
And to the woodcutters I will give twenty thousand cors of wheat, twenty thousand cors of barley, twenty thousand baths of wine, and twenty thousand baths of oil, as provisions for your servants.”

Then Huram, king of Tyre, sent a reply to Solomon, saying: “Because the LORD loves His people, He has set you over them as king.”
12
And Huram continued: “Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, who made heaven and earth, because He has given King David a wise son, endowed with insight and understanding, who will build a house for the LORD and a royal palace for himself!”

Now therefore I am sending a skilled man, one who has understanding, Huram-abi,
14
the son of a woman from the daughters of Dan, and his father was a man of Tyre. He is skilled in working with gold, silver, bronze, iron, stone, wood, purple cloth, blue cloth, fine linen, and crimson cloth, and also in making every kind of engraving and every kind of design that is assigned to him, together with your skilled men and the skilled men of my lord David, your father.

Now therefore let my lord send to his servants the wheat and barley, the oil and the wine of which my lord has spoken.
16
And we will cut timber from Lebanon as much as you need, and bring it to you in rafts by sea to Joppa; and you may carry it up to Jerusalem.”
17
Then Solomon counted all the foreign men who were in the land of Israel, as David his father had done before. And there were found one hundred fifty-three thousand six hundred.
18
And from among them he made seventy thousand to bear burdens, eighty thousand stonecutters in the mountains, and three thousand six hundred overseers to make the people work.
