1
Solomon, the son of David, grew strong in his position as king; the LORD his God was with him and made his rule exceedingly great.

Solomon gave orders to all Israel, to the commanders of thousands and of hundreds, to the judges, and to all the leaders in all Israel, namely the heads of the clans.

Then Solomon went with the whole assembly to the high place at Gibeon, for there was the Tent of Meeting of God, which Moses the servant of the LORD had made in the wilderness.

— But David had brought up the ark of God from Kiriath-jearim to the place he had prepared for it, — for he had pitched a tent for it in Jerusalem.

However, the bronze altar made by Bezalel son of Uri, son of Hur, was still there in front of the LORD’s tabernacle. So Solomon and the assembly sought the LORD there.

Solomon offered sacrifices there before the LORD on the bronze altar that was before the Tent of Meeting; he offered a thousand burnt offerings on it.

That same night God appeared to Solomon and said to him, “Ask what I shall give you.”

Solomon said to God, “You have shown great covenant love to David my father, and have made me king in his place.
9
Now, LORD God, let your promise to David my father be confirmed, for you have made me king over a people as numerous as the dust of the earth.
10
Give me now wisdom and understanding, so that I may go out and come in as leader of this people, for who is able to judge this great people of yours?”
11
God said to Solomon, “Because this was in your heart, and you did not ask for riches, wealth, honor, or the life of those who hate you, and you did not ask for long life, but instead asked for wisdom and understanding to judge my people over whom I have made you king,

wisdom and understanding are granted to you; and besides that I will give you riches, wealth, and honor, such as none of the kings before you have had, and none after you will have.”

Then Solomon returned from the high place at Gibeon, from before the Tent of Meeting, to Jerusalem, and he ruled over Israel.
14
Solomon also gathered chariots and horsemen, so that he had one thousand four hundred chariots and twelve thousand horsemen, all of whom were stationed in the chariot cities and near the king in Jerusalem.

The king made silver and gold in Jerusalem as plentiful as stones, and cedar trees as plentiful as sycamore trees that grow in the lowlands.

The horses for Solomon were brought from Egypt and from Kue; the king’s merchants bought them from Kue at the market price.

A chariot brought from Egypt cost six hundred shekels of silver, and a horse one hundred and fifty shekels; and so through them these were exported to all the kings of the Hittites and to the kings of Aram.

2 Chronicles 1 opens the story of the leadership of King Solomon, David’s son, who began his reign with surrender to the Lord. - He had many chariots and horses
