The Bible is a collection of books that is long, complex, and full of stories, laws, prophecies, and teachings. However, many people ask, “If all of this is combined into one outline, what is actually the core message of the Bible?” This question is not only natural but important because if we know the core, we can read and understand the entire Bible more clearly.
One Grand Story: God and Humanity
The core of the Bible is not merely moral rules or historical stories. The Bible is a grand story about God who loves humanity and designs salvation for His people. From Genesis to Revelation, one red thread flows: God created humans, humans fell into sin, but God did not give up; He designed a way of restoration.
In Genesis 1:27-28, we see God creating humans in His image, and giving them the mandate to rule the earth and live in relationship with Him. However, just a few chapters later, humans fell into sin (Genesis 3), and that relationship was broken. From that moment, the entire content of the Bible tells how God pursues humans to restore them again.
The Climax: Jesus Christ
Everything in the Old Testament points to one climax: the coming of Jesus Christ. He is the fulfillment of God’s promise to save humanity, as prophesied in Isaiah 53 and fulfilled in the Gospels.
John 3:16 explains very clearly: “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” This is not just a popular verse; it is the core of everything.
Jesus came, died on the cross, and rose again to restore the relationship between humans and God. Through faith in Him, we are reconciled with the Creator (Romans 5:1).
The Ultimate Goal: Restoration and Eternal Life
The Bible closes with the book of Revelation which speaks of total restoration. A new heaven and new earth will be revealed, and God will dwell with His people forever (Revelation 21:3-4). There will be no more tears, death, or suffering—all will be as it was when God first created the world.
So, from beginning to end, the core message of the Bible is about God’s plan of redemption. It is not about religion, rules, or rituals alone, but about the relational connection between God and humans restored by the love and sacrifice of Christ.
How Should We Respond?
Knowing this core message changes the way we read and understand the Bible. Every law, story, or prophecy in the Bible does not stand alone. They all point to God’s grand plan to redeem humanity and bring us back into His embrace.
The question now is, have we grasped that great message? Have we responded to God’s love with a life of faith and obedience to Him?
