There are many Christians who feel they are not yet worthy to be used by God because they think they are not spiritual enough, not holy enough, or not perfect enough. Yet when we look at the Bible, almost all the great figures God used were not perfect people. God does not wait for perfect people to work, but He perfects those who are willing to obey Him.
Moses is a clear example. He once killed an Egyptian and fled into the wilderness (Exodus 2:12-15). Yet it was Moses whom God called to lead the Israelites out of slavery. Peter, Jesus’ disciple, once denied Jesus three times (Luke 22:61-62). But later, Peter was the one God used to preach on the day of Pentecost, when three thousand people repented (Acts 2:41). Paul, who was once known as Saul, had even persecuted the church of God. Yet he was used to become a great apostle who wrote much of the New Testament letters (1 Timothy 1:12-13).
What do they have in common? They were not perfect people, but they were willing to repent, obey, and be led by God. That is the key: it is not about who we are, but about who the God is who calls us.
Often the enemy tries to plant the lie that we must be “holier first” or “more ready first” before we can serve God. Yet the Word of God says in 2 Corinthians 12:9, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness.” This means our weakness is not an obstacle, but the place where God’s power can be revealed.
If we wait until we are perfect, we may never take a step forward. But when we step out in faith, God is the One who will perfect every lack in us. Just as a potter shapes clay, God also shapes our lives in the process. Jeremiah 18:6 says, “Like clay in the hand of the potter, so are you in My hand.”
So do not be afraid to be used by God even if you still feel weak. What God is looking for is a willing heart, not perfection. God does not wait for us to be perfect, but He calls us to be willing to be used, and along the way He is the One who perfects us.
Lord Jesus, I know I still have many shortcomings. Yet I believe You are able to use my life as it is for Your glory. Shape me, use me, and perfect me in Your grace. Amen.
