Then he brought me out to the outer court by the north side and led me to the chambers on the north, which faced the enclosed area and faced the building at the west end.

The length of the building of the chambers on the north side was one hundred cubits, and its width fifty cubits.

Opposite the twenty cubits that belonged to the inner court, and opposite the pavement in the outer court, there was a gallery facing gallery, in three tiers.

In front of the chambers was a passageway ten cubits wide and one hundred cubits long, and their entrances were on the north side.

The upper chambers were smaller than the lower and middle chambers of the building, because the galleries took up more space than those chambers.

For they were in three tiers and had no pillars like those in the outer court. Therefore the upper chambers were smaller than the lower or the middle ones.

Outside there was a wall parallel to the row of chambers, beside the outer court and in front of the chambers; its length was fifty cubits.

For the row of chambers that bordered the outer court was fifty cubits long, but the row of chambers that bordered the temple was one hundred cubits long.

At the lower part of these chambers there was an entrance from the east side, if one came in from the outer court.

and at the beginning of the outer wall there was also on the south side, in front of the enclosed area and in front of the building at the west end, chambers

with a passageway in front of them. These chambers were like the chambers on the north side, in length and width, with their exits and their arrangement. As the entrances on the north side,

so were the entrances of the chambers on the south. There was also an entrance at the beginning of the passage along the wall, that is, an entrance from the east side, if one wished to enter the chambers.

Then he said to me, “The chambers on the north and the chambers on the south, which face the enclosed area, are the holy chambers, where the priests who draw near to the LORD shall eat the most holy offerings. There they shall place the most holy offerings, the grain offering, the sin offering, and the guilt offering, for the place is holy.

When the priests enter the holy place, they shall not go out into the outer court until they have taken off the garments in which they minister, for those garments are holy. They shall put on other garments, and then they may come near to the place of the people of the LORD.”

After he had finished measuring the inner building, he brought me out by the gate that faces east, and measured the surrounding area of the temple enclosure.

He measured the east side with the measuring rod: five hundred cubits by the measuring rod. Then he turned

and measured the north side: five hundred cubits by the measuring rod. He turned again

to the south side and measured it: five hundred cubits by the measuring rod.

Then he turned to the west side and measured it: five hundred cubits by the measuring rod.

The four sides were measured. All around it was a wall: five hundred cubits long and five hundred cubits wide, to separate the holy from the common.

Ezekiel 42 continues the vision of the future Temple given to the prophet Ezekiel. In this chapter, attention is given to the rooms around the temple set apart for the priests — places where they eat the holy offerings, store the holy garments, and rest from their service.
