Ezekiel 41 – The Measuring of the Temple

1
Then he brought me into the great hall of the temple and measured the wall pillars: on this side six cubits thick, and on that side six cubits also.

2
The width of the entrance was ten cubits, and the width of the side walls was five cubits on this side and five cubits on that side. He measured also the length of the great hall: forty cubits, and its width: twenty cubits.

3
Then he came to the inner room. He measured the wall pillars: two cubits thick, and the width of the doorway itself: six cubits, and the width of the side walls: seven cubits on this side and seven cubits on that side.

4
He measured the length of the inner room: twenty cubits, and its width: twenty cubits, according to the width of the great hall. Then he said to me, “This is the Most Holy Place.”

5
Then he measured the wall of the temple: six cubits thick, and the width of the side chambers that were all around the temple: four cubits.

6
The side chambers were in three stories, and on one story there were thirty chambers. Around the wall of the temple there were ledges for supporting the side chambers, for these chambers were not joined to the wall of the temple.

7
And the side chambers became wider from the first story to the third story, in keeping with the increase of the ledges on each story around the temple; there was a stairway going up, and thus one could go up from the lower story to the upper story through the middle story.

8
I saw that the base of the temple was higher than the surrounding area. The foundation of the side chambers was one full rod, that is, six cubits high.

9
The thickness of the outer wall of the side chambers was five cubits; the width of the open area left beside the temple foundation was five cubits. Between the foundation of the building and

10
the chambers there was a space of twenty cubits all around the building.

11
And the doors of the side chambers opened toward the open area, one door on the north side and one door on the south side; and the width of the open area was five cubits all around.

12
The building that was in the court on the west side was seventy cubits wide, while the wall around it was five cubits thick and ninety cubits long.

13
Then he measured the temple: one hundred cubits long, and the court with the building and its wall: one hundred cubits also;

14
likewise the width of the front of the temple and the court on the east side: one hundred cubits.

15
Then he measured the length of the building that was in the court on the west side, together with its galleries on both sides: one hundred cubits.
The great hall, the inner room, and the outer porch

16
covered with boards, and around the three rooms there were windows with shutters and porches. Opposite the threshold, the whole temple was covered with boards from the floor up to the windows — and the windows were protected —

17
up to the top of the door, and the inner room, and also outside. And on all the inner wall and the outer wall there were carved

18
cherubim and palm trees, with a palm tree between each pair of cherubim; and each cherub had two faces.

19
On one side was the face of a man, and on the other side the face of a lion, facing toward the palm tree; and so it was made throughout the whole temple.

20
From the floor up to above the door, cherubim and palm trees were carved on the wall.

21
The doorposts of the main room were square. And before the most holy place there was something that appeared like

22
a wooden altar, three cubits high, two cubits long, and two cubits wide; its corners, its base, and its sides were of wood. He said to me, “This is the table that is before the LORD.”

23
The main room had two doors, and the most holy place

24
also had two doors. On those doors were two swinging leaves, two leaves on one door and two on the other.

25
On these doors also, that is, the doors of the main room, were carved cherubim and palm trees, like those on the walls. In front of the porch of the temple, that is, outside, there was a wooden stairway.

26
On both side walls of the porch there were windows with shutters and carvings of palm trees.

🏛️🪵🔥 Summary of Ezekiel 41 – The Design of the Holy Rooms: The Splendor and Holiness of the New Temple

Ezekiel 41 continues the architectural vision of the new Temple that began in chapter 40. In this chapter, Ezekiel sees in detail the inner rooms of the Temple, including the Holy Place and the Most Holy Place, as well as the ornaments and structures of the walls, doors, and cherub figures. Everything is measured carefully and designed to display glory, order, and holiness — the center of God’s worship.

📌 1. Measurements of the Holy Place and Most Holy Place (verses 1–4)
➡️ Holy Place: 40 cubits long, 20 cubits wide
➡️ Most Holy Place: 20 cubits long and wide — the most sacred place in the Temple
➡️ Its measurements reflect perfect symmetry and absolute holiness
🎯 God’s glory can be found only in true holiness and divine precision.

📌 2. Structure and Surrounding Wall of the Temple (verses 5–11)
➡️ The wall was very thick (6 cubits), with side chambers all around the main building
➡️ Three levels of side chambers, a total of 30 chambers, supported the main structure
➡️ No beams were built into the wall of the House of God — the design showed that all stood independently yet in order
🎯 Every part was designed to stand firm without disturbing the holiness at the center.

📌 3. Materials, Carvings, and Various Holy Ornaments (verses 12–21)
➡️ The chambers are described in great detail: height, length, and the functions of the rooms
➡️ The walls were decorated with carvings of cherubim and palm trees, recalling the Garden of Eden and the glory of God
➡️ Double-leaved doors were installed, showing splendor and order
🎯 The symbols of cherubim and trees portray the presence of God and the restoration of God’s lost garden.

📌 4. The Wooden Altar and the Holy Entrance (verses 22–26)
➡️ A wooden altar was placed before the Most Holy Place, measuring 3 cubits high and 2 cubits long
➡️ The altar was called: “this is the table that is before the LORD
➡️ The doors to the holy rooms were also carved with cherubim and palm trees
🎯 Worship and meeting with God are not empty ritual, but holy and full of symbolic meaning.
