When we hear the words “faith test”, many people immediately imagine suffering: illness, loss, or heavy problems that bring us low. It is true that the Bible shows suffering can be part of a test of faith. But a test of faith does not always come through suffering.
There are times when our faith is tested דווקא in good circumstances. When we are blessed, do we remain humble or begin to grow proud? When we succeed, do we remember the Lord or forget Him? “Be careful that you do not forget the LORD your God, failing to observe his commands, his laws and his decrees” (Deuteronomy 8:11). A test of faith can arise when our hearts are tested by abundance.
Jesus also reminded us that things that seem small can become a field for testing faith. “Whoever is faithful in very little is also faithful in much” (Luke 16:10). When we are given simple responsibilities, the way we handle them shows how far our faith is at work. Not every test has to take the form of a great storm. Sometimes faithfulness in small things is harder than facing real suffering.
In addition, a test of faith can come through waiting. Waiting for an answer to prayer often tests the heart more than suffering that is clearly visible. When prayer has not yet been answered, do we still believe, or do we begin to doubt? “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see” (Hebrews 11:1).
In other words, a test of faith is not only present when we fall, but also when we stand. Not only when we cry, but also when we laugh. True faith does not merely endure suffering; it also remains faithful in abundance, in waiting, and in the simplicity of everyday life.
Therefore, let us open the eyes of our hearts. Do not only be ready to face tests in suffering, but also stay alert when we are in comfort. Being faithful to God in every season of life is a sign of mature faith.
Lord, thank You for every season of life You allow. Help me not only to be strong in suffering, but also to remain faithful in abundance, in waiting, and in the small things. Teach me to see every circumstance as an opportunity to draw closer to You. Amen.
