In 2 Kings 5:2-3, we see a prominent figure, Naaman, the commander of the Aramean army, who was afflicted with leprosy. He was ultimately healed not because of advice from a great general or a famous prophet, but because of a young girl from Israel who served in his household. The unnamed girl said, โIf my lord would only go to the prophet in Samaria, he would cure him of his leprosy.โ (2 Kings 5:3)
Who would have thought? A little servant girl, from a conquered nation, became a channel of God’s power. If Naaman had ignored that small voice, he might have lived with leprosy all his life.
We often ignore those who do not meet our expectations. Maybe it’s the little child in Sunday school, the overly talkative neighbor, or the coworker who doesn’t share your wavelength. But God does not regard status. He uses anyone whose heart is willing to be used.
In 1 Corinthians 1:27 it says, โBut God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise.โ So, if you feel overlooked or insignificant, remember: you can still be used by God. And if you are disturbed by someone you consider โnobody,โ pause for a moment and ask: could God be speaking through them?
Learn to be sensitive and humble. Our spiritual ears must not only be sensitive to voices from above but also from those around us. Because often, God’s voice does not come from heaven, but from nameless, positionless people full of truth.
