God’s Miracles Often Unfold Through a Process

Often we hope for miracles to happen instantly. We want prayers to be answered immediately, problems to be resolved quickly, and solutions to appear without waiting. However, the Bible shows that many miracles occur through a process, not instantly. God sovereignly performs great things suddenly, but He also often guides us step by step so that our faith grows.

Consider the story of Naaman, the commander of Aram who had leprosy. When he came to Elisha, he hoped the prophet would immediately lay hands on him and heal him instantly. But Elisha only instructed him to wash seven times in the Jordan River (2 Kings 5:10). At first, Naaman was angry because he wanted an instant miracle. But after he obeyed and went through the process established by God, his skin became clean. A miracle is born when obedience meets the process.

A similar thing happened to the blind man healed by Jesus in Mark 8:23-25. Jesus spat on his eyes and laid hands on him. The man began to see, but not clearly. Jesus touched him again, and then he saw perfectly.

This process shows that God sometimes works gradually, so that we learn to trust and keep hoping.

Why does God allow a process? First, because the process purifies the motives of our hearts. Are we seeking God only for miracles, or do we truly believe in Him? Second, because the process grows faith and perseverance. Romans 5:3-4 says, “Suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.” Without going through that journey, our faith will be fragile and easily shaken.

True miracles are not only about the final result but also about the change of heart during the process. God wants us to know Him more, not just to enjoy answered prayers. Therefore, when prayers are not yet answered, do not be quick to be disappointed. Perhaps God is training us through steps that shape mature faith.

Every process with God is never in vain. Like a seed that must be planted and wait for the time to grow, so too miracles require a process until the time comes for them to be fulfilled.

What God asks for is just one thing: to keep believing and faithfully walking with Him.

Lord, teach me not only to await the results but also to appreciate the process You allow in my life. Shape my faith to become stronger and more mature, so that I not only seek miracles but even more so seek You, the Giver of Miracles. Amen.
