We often ask ourselves this question: if God is Almighty and full of love, why doesn’t He remove all problems from our lives? Wouldn’t it be easier if we never faced suffering, heartbreak, or heavy struggles? However, the Bible actually shows that problems play an important role in shaping the faith and character of believers.
First, problems teach us to rely fully on God. The Apostle Paul once pleaded with God to remove the “thorn in the flesh” that troubled him. But God answered: “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness” (2 Corinthians 12:9). Problems are not always taken away, because through our weakness, God’s power becomes more evident.
Second, problems train perseverance and faith. James 1:2-3 says, “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.” Without pressure, our faith would remain fragile.
But through difficult processes, we are shaped into resilient individuals.
Third, problems reveal the true contents of our hearts. In comfortable situations, it is very easy to say we trust God. But do we remain faithful when prayers are unanswered? Problems are a mirror that shows the quality of our faith.
Jesus Himself never promised a life without problems. In John 16:33 He said, โIn this world you will have trouble, but take heart! I have overcome the world.โ This means that problems are part of the journey of faith, but we never face them alone.
More than that, God can use problems to bring about greater good. Romans 8:28 affirms, โAnd we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him.โ Even painful things can be transformed by God into blessings, shaping us to be more like Christ.
So, it is not that God is unable to remove all problems, but He chooses to use problems for a deeper purpose.
Problems are not a sign that God has abandoned us, but rather an opportunity to experience His power and love in a real way.
Lord, often I want to live without problems, but I believe You have a more beautiful plan. Help me to see every struggle as an opportunity to know You more deeply. Strengthen my faith to remain faithful in walking with You. Amen.
