Everyone has been at the point of waiting for an answer to prayer. Some wait for healing, a life partner, a job opportunity, or even restoration in the family. Yet in the middle of that waiting, a question often arises: “Why hasn’t God answered yet?” The answer that may not be immediately visible is that God’s timing always has a purpose.
The Bible says, “To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven” (Ecclesiastes 3:1). This means that not a single moment in our lives happens by chance. God designs time with such detail that even the small things that seem insignificant have meaning. If we wait rightly, the delay we consider painful can become a valuable process that shapes our faith.
A clear example is seen in Abraham’s life. God promised to give him descendants, but he had to wait for years before Isaac was born. That waiting was not without meaning. God was training Abraham’s faith so that he would trust the promise, not the circumstances. Paul wrote, “He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God” (Romans 4:20).
It is the same in our lives. At times we feel that time is moving slowly, prayer feels empty, and circumstances do not change. But in truth, God uses time to prepare us, not only to prepare blessings for us. If the answer came too quickly, perhaps we would not be ready to receive it. God wants our character to mature, our hearts to be aligned, and our faith to grow before the promise is fulfilled.
Jesus Himself once delayed His departure when Lazarus was sick. He did not come right away, and Lazarus eventually died. Yet Jesus said, “This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God” (John 11:4). That delay actually opened the way for the miracle of Lazarus’ resurrection, which led many people to believe in Him. From this we learn that delay does not mean God does not care; rather, there is a greater purpose.
So when we are waiting for an answer to prayer, do not focus only on what has not happened yet. Look at what God is doing within us. Believe that His timing is never wrong, and that every second is filled with good purpose.
Lord, thank You because Your timing is always perfect. Teach me to wait patiently in faith, trusting that every delay is not in vain, but part of Your beautiful plan. Strengthen my heart so that I remain faithful in the waiting. Amen.
