Everyone has experienced inner wounds at some point. Whether from betrayal, the loss of a loved one, failure, or words that pierce the heart. Wounds like these are not visible from the outside, but they can gnaw at the heart, make it hard to trust, and even steal joy. The question is, how does God work to heal wounds like these?
First, God begins by touching our hearts through His love. Psalm 147:3 says, “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” This is not merely a sweet promise, but evidence of God’s character, who cares about our inner suffering. He does not rush to cover the wound, but works through us until the heart is truly restored.
The second step is allowing God into the deepest part of our hearts. Many people tightly close off the painful places because they are afraid of being hurt again. Yet, like a doctor who cannot treat a wound without seeing it, God wants us to be honest before Him. Psalm 34:18 affirms, “The LORD is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.” When we dare to bring that pain before God, we give Him the opportunity to work.
In addition, God often uses the process of forgiveness as medicine. Forgiveness does not mean forgetting or excusing someone else’s wrong, but freeing the heart from the poison of hatred. Ephesians 4:31-32 says, “Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you… Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another.” When we forgive, we open the way for God’s peace to enter.
God also uses community and His Word as means of restoration. Fellowship with believers gives us space to strengthen and pray for one another. God’s Word becomes medicine that fills the heart with truth, replacing the lies we may have believed because of past wounds. Romans 15:4 affirms that the Word gives us comfort and hope.
In the end, healing inner wounds is often not an instant process. Like a physical wound that needs time to heal, our hearts are also restored little by little. Yet we can trust that God is the faithful Healer, who not only treats the symptoms but restores us completely.
Lord, thank You because You are a loving Healer. I surrender all the inner wounds in my heart to You. Help me to be honest before You, learn to forgive, and allow Your love to restore me. Heal my heart completely so that I may live with joy and peace from You.
