So behold, the Lord, the LORD of hosts,
will remove from Jerusalem and from Judah
every support and supply,
every supply of bread and every supply of water:
2
mighty man and warrior,
judge and prophet,
soothsayer and elder,
3
captain and man of rank,
counselor and skilled magician,
and one who is expert in charms.
4
I will make youths their leaders,
and children shall rule over them.
5
The people will be oppressed,
one by another,
each by his neighbor;
the young will be insolent toward the old,
and the despised toward the honorable.
6
When a man takes hold of his brother in his father’s house and says:
“You have a cloak; you shall be our leader,
and this ruin shall be under your rule,”
7
in that day he will answer:
“I will not be a healer;
in my house there is neither bread nor a cloak;
do not make me leader of the people.”
8
For Jerusalem has stumbled,
and Judah has fallen;
because their words and their deeds are against the LORD,
and they defy the glory of his presence.
9
The look on their faces bears witness against them;
and like Sodom, they openly declare their sin,
not hiding it anymore.
Woe to them!
For they have brought disaster upon themselves.
10
Say that it is well with the righteous!
For they shall eat the fruit of their deeds.
11
Woe to the wicked! Disaster shall come upon him,
for they shall be dealt with according to their own deeds.
12
As for my people, children are their oppressors,
and women rule over them.
My people, your leaders are misleaders,
and the way you walk they have made crooked!

The LORD takes his place to contend,
and stands to judge the peoples.

The LORD enters into judgment
with the elders and leaders of his people:
“It is you who have devoured the vineyard;
the spoil of the poor is in your houses.
15
Why do you crush my people
and grind the faces of the poor?”
declares the Lord GOD of hosts.
16
The LORD said:
Because the daughters of Zion are haughty
and walk with outstretched necks
and with flirting eyes,
walking with mincing steps
and tinkling with their anklets,
17
therefore the Lord will strike
with scabs the heads of the daughters of Zion,
and the LORD will lay bare their foreheads.
18
In that day the Lord will take away the finery of their anklets, headbands, and crescents;
19
earrings, pendants, and veils;
20
headdresses, ankle chains,
sashes, perfume boxes, and amulets;
21
signet rings and nose rings;
22
gala garments, robes, shawls, and purses;
23
mirrors, linen undergarments,
turbans, and outer garments.
24
And instead of sweet perfume there will be a stench,
instead of a sash, a rope,
instead of well-set hair, baldness,
instead of a festive robe, a garment of sackcloth;
and branding instead of beauty.
25
Your men shall fall by the sword,
and your mighty men in battle.
26
The gates of Zion shall lament and mourn,
and the city shall be like a woman stripped and sitting on the ground.

This chapter continues Isaiah’s warning about God’s judgment on Jerusalem and Judah, with emphasis on the collapse of leadership and social decay.
