In Job 17, Job sinks deeper into despair. He describes himself as near death, his body broken, and his spirit of life extinguished. He has lost hope for restoration in this life, and feels betrayed by the friends who should have comforted him, but instead have shamed him.
This chapter is filled with deep lament from one who feels he has no future, and that the only place left is the grave.
📌 1. My Spirit Is Broken, I Have Become a Mockery (verses 1–6)
➡️ Job says:
“My spirit is broken, my days are ended, and only the grave awaits me.”
➡️ He feels made a target of ridicule and contempt among the people
➡️ Even his friends cannot be trusted

“Give a pledge for me… Who else will stand with me?”
🎯 Job laments the betrayal of those near him and the inward ruin that no human can repair.

➡️ Yet he affirms that the righteous will not be shaken:
“The upright will still hold to his way.”
