Then Job answered:

“How well you have helped him who is without strength, and saved the arm that has no power!

How well you have counseled him who has no wisdom, and how plentifully you have made known sound understanding!
4
By whose prompting have you spoken these words, and whose spirit has come forth from you?

The shades beneath tremble; the waters and their inhabitants.
6
Sheol is naked before God, and Abaddon has no covering.
7
He stretches out the north over empty space, and hangs the earth upon nothing.
8
He binds up the waters in his clouds, yet the cloud is not rent under them.
9
He covers the face of his throne, and spreads his cloud upon it.
10
He has drawn a circle upon the face of the waters, to the boundary where light and darkness meet.
11
The pillars of heaven tremble, and are astonished at his rebuke.
12
By his power he stilled the sea, and by his understanding he smote Rahab.
13
By his breath the heavens are made fair; his hand pierced the swift serpent.
14
Lo, these are but the outskirts of his ways; and how small a whisper do we hear of him! But the thunder of his power who can understand?”
🌩️🗣️🔍 Summary of Job 26 – “Who Can Search Out the Power of God?”
In Job 26, Job answers Bildad’s taunt (Job 25) with sharp irony and deep praise for the majesty of God.
He rebukes the lack of compassion in his friends, then describes the greatness of God beyond searching out — from the realm of the dead, to the heavens, the sea, and the storm.
Job admits: what we know of God is only a “whisper” of his power — but the merest edge of his ways.
This is a chapter full of holy wonder: faith in awe.
📌 1. Sharp Rebuke of the Friends (verses 1–4)
➡️ Job says in effect:
- “Whom have you helped with your words?”
- “Whom have you comforted with your wisdom?”
➡️ He feels not helped, but brought low by friends who claim to be wise.
🎯 Theology without compassion only wounds, it does not heal.
📌 2. God’s Power in the Unseen Realm and the Universe (verses 5–13)
➡️ Job sets forth God’s power:
- The realm of the dead (Sheol & Abaddon) lies open before God
- God stretches out the northern heavens over emptiness
- Hanging the earth without support
- Binding the waters in clouds without breaking them
- Covering the face of his throne and setting the boundary between light and darkness
- Shaking the sea and striking the sea monster (Rahab)
🎯 Job shows deep knowledge of creation, and God’s greatness surpasses human understanding.
📌 3. These Are Only the Outskirts (verse 14)
➡️ Job concludes:
“These are only the outskirts of his works… his voice is but a whisper.”
➡️ If that is only a “whisper,” how mighty must be the thunder of his power?
