Then Job answered:

“Oh, that my grief were weighed, and my calamity laid together with it on the scales!

For then it would be heavier than the sand of the sea; therefore my words have been rash.
4
For the arrows of the Almighty are within me, and their poison drinks up my spirit; the terrors of God are arrayed against me.
5
Does the wild donkey bray when it has grass, or does the ox low over its fodder?
6
Can that which is tasteless be eaten without salt, or is there any flavor in the white of an egg?
7
I refuse to touch it; such food is loathsome to me.
8
Oh, that my request might be granted, and that God would give me what I hope for!
9
That God would be willing to crush me, that He would let loose His hand and cut off my life!
10
Then this would still be my comfort; indeed, I would leap for joy in unrelenting pain, for I have not denied the words of the Holy One.

What strength do I have, that I should endure, and what is my future, that I should be patient?

Is my strength the strength of stones? Is my flesh bronze?
13
Is there not help for me, and is not deliverance far from me?

He who withholds kindness from his friend forsakes the fear of the Almighty.
15
My brothers have dealt deceitfully like a brook, like the channel of streams that pass away,
16
which are dark because of ice, and in which the snow melts;
17
when they shrink away in the dry season, they vanish from their place when the heat comes.
18
The paths of their course wind along, they go into the wasteland, and perish.
19
The caravans of Tema looked for them, the companies of Sheba hoped for them.
20
They were disappointed because they had trusted; they came there and were confounded.
21
So now you are like them to me; when you see terror, you are afraid.
22
Have I ever said, ‘Give me something,’ or, ‘Offer me a bribe from your wealth,
23
or, ‘Deliver me from the hand of the enemy,’ or, ‘Redeem me from the hand of the violent’?
24
Teach me, and I will be silent; show me in what I have gone astray.
25
How forceful are honest words! But what does your rebuke prove?
26
Do you intend to rebuke words? Are the words of one who is desperate to be counted as wind?
27
You would even cast lots over the fatherless, and bargain away your friend.
28
But now, turn to me; I will not lie before you.
29
Turn back; let there be no injustice; turn back, my righteousness is still intact.
30
Is there any deceit on my tongue? Cannot my palate discern calamity?”
💔🗣️🌪️ Summary of Job 6 – Job’s Answer to Eliphaz: “You Do Not Understand!”
After hearing the subtle accusations from Eliphaz (Job 4–5), Job now answers directly. Job 6 contains the cry of a heart in suffering, feeling not understood even by his own friends. He reveals how heavy his suffering is and rebukes his friends for giving counsel without empathy. Job desires justice and understanding — not accusation.
📌 1. My Suffering Is Heavier Than You Think (verses 1–7)
➡️ Job said:
“Oh that my grief were weighed, and my calamity laid in the balances together with it, heavier than the sand of the sea.”
➡️ He declares that his harsh and desperate words arise from overwhelming suffering
➡️ He complains that even food has become loathsome — life no longer has any delight
🎯 Job wants to be understood, not judged. The words of one who is wounded are often not reasonable — but they need compassion, not correction.

“Oh that God would grant my request… that he would cut off the thread of my life!”
➡️ Not because he wants to take his own life, but because he believes it is God who has the right to end his life

“My brothers are like streams that dry up in the heat of summer.”

“Have I asked you for money or help?” — Job asked only for understanding, not material things
