Genesis 50:20 says, “As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring it about that many people should be kept alive, as they are today.”
Joseph’s story is one of the clearest examples that the journey of faith is not always short or easy. From being his father’s beloved son, he was sold as a slave by his brothers, falsely accused by Potiphar’s wife, and then imprisoned for years without any fair reason. The path Joseph walked seemed full of suffering, but behind it all, the Lord was weaving a great plan.
What is amazing is that Joseph did not let bitterness rule his heart. He remained faithful in every circumstance. As a slave, he worked diligently and was entrusted with managing Potiphar’s house. Even in prison he was known as someone dependable, until he was finally trusted to interpret dreams. Faithfulness in small processes opens the way to a great plan.
We often want God to work quickly. We hope prayers are answered right away, problems end fast, and God’s promises are fulfilled immediately. But Joseph’s story reminds us that God cares more about shaping our character than simply giving instant results. The long process Joseph went through made him mature, humble, and ready to receive the great responsibility of ruling Egypt.
Imagine if Joseph had been raised up without going through that process. Perhaps he would not have been mature enough to lead, or he might have fallen into pride. Process is God’s way of preparing us so that the blessing He entrusts to us will not destroy us, but become a channel of blessing for many people.
Today, perhaps you are also in a “pit” like Joseph, feeling rejected, forgotten, or even treated unfairly. Or perhaps you feel as if you are in a “prison,” a situation that keeps you from moving freely. Remember: a long process does not mean God has abandoned you. In the midst of the process, God is shaping you for a greater purpose.
When the time comes, the door will open, and we will see how every painful piece of the puzzle was actually coming together into the beautiful picture of God’s plan.
Father, thank You for Joseph’s example. Help me to remain faithful and trust You, even when life feels long and hard. Shape me through every process, so that when the time comes, I will be ready to be used for Your glorious purpose. Amen.
