Like Esther: Used by God in Unexpected Places

The story of Esther is one of the remarkable stories in the Bible that teaches us about God’s sovereignty at work behind the scenes. Esther was not a prophet, nor a military leader, and she did not even come from a prominent family. She was simply an ordinary Jewish girl raised by her uncle, Mordecai. Yet, God placed her in the Persian palace as queen at a time when her people faced the threat of destruction.

We often think that to be used by God, we must be in an important position or have many abilities. But Esther’s story proves otherwise. Esther 4:14 records Mordecai’s words to her, “And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?” This verse affirms that no position or circumstance is accidental; everything can become an instrument in God’s hands.

What made Esther special was not the crown on her head, but her courageous and obedient heart. When she had to choose between staying silent for her own safety or stepping forward and risking her life for her people, Esther chose the path of faith. She said, “If I perish, I perish” (Esther 4:16). This courage did not come from her own strength, but from her confidence that God was able to save His people.

From this story we learn that:

  1. God can use anyone, anywhere. Whether we are students, workers, homemakers, or leaders, our position can become a “palace” that God uses for His purpose.
  2. God’s timing is always right. Esther did not know why she was chosen to be queen, but when the time came, she realized it was a divine appointment.
  3. The courage of faith opens the way to salvation. Esther not only saved herself, but the entire Jewish nation.

Perhaps right now you feel that your life is ordinary, or even that you are in a place you never planned. But believe this: in unexpected places, God can use you for His great plan. What God needs is not status, but a heart ready to obey.

Lord, teach me to believe that You have placed me in the right place according to Your plan. Let me have a heart like Esther’s, bold to obey and trusting that You are able to use my life even in places I never expected. Amen.
