Moses and His Fear: God Chooses Without Mistake

When we talk about Moses, we often immediately think of great miracles: the parting of the sea, the ten plagues in Egypt, and the Law on Mount Sinai. But before all those great things happened, Moses was just a shepherd who was afraid to take a step. When God called him through the burning bush, Moses’ response was not “Ready, Lord!” but “Who am I?”

“But Moses said to God, ‘Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?'” (Exodus 3:11)

That sentence is very human. Moses felt unworthy, not eloquent enough, and burdened by his past. But interestingly, God did not refute Moses’ doubts about himself. Instead, God simply answered:

“Certainly I will be with you.” (Exodus 3:12)

God is not looking for the most capable. God is looking for the willing.

Moses’ fear reflects the hearts of many believers today. We know God has a plan, but we hesitate because we feel incapable. We think, “I am nobody,” “I have too many sins,” “I am not as fluent as others.” But look at Moses. Even after he refused many times, God still chose and used him extraordinarily.

“Who gave human beings their mouths? Who makes them deaf or mute? Who gives them sight or makes them blind? Is it not I, the LORD?” (Exodus 4:11)

God knew Moses’ limitations and still said, “Go.” This means, God does not make wrong choices.

If today you feel like Mosesโ€”afraid, doubtful, lacking confidenceโ€”remember that our strength is not in our personal abilities, but in God’s presence. When God calls, He also equips. Moses was not perfect, but his heart was submissive. And that was enough for God to do great things.

Don’t let fear hold back your step of faith.
Maybe you feel your prayers are not as powerful as others’, your ministry is small, or your life has not yet borne much fruit. But when God calls you to do your part, believe: He knows whom He calls.

And if God has chosen, He does not make a wrong choice.
