When Balaam saw that it pleased the LORD to bless Israel, he did not seek omens as before, but he set his face toward the wilderness.
2
And Balaam lifted up his eyes and saw Israel encamped tribe by tribe, and the Spirit of God came upon him.
3
Then he uttered his oracle, and said:
“The utterance of Balaam son of Beor,
the utterance of the man whose eyes are opened;
4
the utterance of one who hears the words of God,
who sees the vision of the Almighty,
falling down, yet with eyes uncovered.
5
How lovely are your tents, O Jacob,
your dwellings, O Israel!
6
Like valleys that stretch afar,
like gardens beside a river,
like aloes planted by the LORD,
like cedars beside the waters.
7
Water shall flow from his buckets,
and his seed shall have abundant water.
His king shall be higher than Agag,
and his kingdom shall be exalted.
8
God, who brought them out of Egypt,
is for them like the horns of the wild ox.
He shall devour the nations that oppose him,
and break their bones in pieces,
and pierce them through with his arrows.
9
He crouches, he lies down like a lion,
and like a lioness; who dares rouse him?
Blessed is everyone who blesses you,
and cursed is everyone who curses you!”

Then Balak’s anger burned against Balaam, and he struck his hands together and said to Balaam, “I called you to curse my enemies, but instead you have blessed them these three times.
11
Therefore, flee to your own place; I said I would greatly honor you, but the LORD has kept you from receiving it.”
12
But Balaam said to Balak, “Did I not also speak to the messengers whom you sent to me:
13
‘Even if Balak were to give me a house full of silver and gold, I could not go beyond the command of the LORD, to do good or evil of my own will; whatever the LORD speaks, that I will speak.
14
And now, behold, I am going to my people; come, I will tell you what this people will do to your people in the latter days.'”
15
Then he uttered his oracle, and said:
“The utterance of Balaam son of Beor,
the utterance of the man whose eyes are opened;
16
the utterance of one who hears the words of God,
and knows the knowledge of the Most High,
who sees the vision of the Almighty,
falling down, yet with eyes uncovered.
17
I see him, but not now;
I behold him, but not near:
a star shall come forth from Jacob,
a scepter shall rise out of Israel,
and shall strike the corners of Moab,
and break down all the sons of Seth.
18
Edom shall become a possession,
and Seir shall become a possession—his enemies.
But Israel shall do valiantly,
19
and from Jacob shall come one who rules,
who shall destroy the survivors of the city.”
20
When he saw Amalek, he took up his discourse and said:
“Amalek was first among the nations,
but in the end he shall come to destruction.”
21
When he saw the Kenites, he took up his discourse and said:
“Strong is your dwelling place,
your nest is set in the rock,
22
yet the Kenites shall be consumed;
how long until Asshur carries you away captive?”
23
He also took up his discourse and said:
“Alas! Who shall live
when God does this?
24
But ships shall come from the coast of Kittim,
they shall afflict Asshur and afflict Eber,
and he also shall come to destruction.”
25
Then Balaam arose and went back to his own place, and Balak also went his way.
⭐🗣️👑 Summary of Numbers 24 – The Prophecy of Blessing and the Star from Jacob
In Numbers 24, Balaam no longer tries to manipulate the word of the Lord. Instead, he receives direct revelation from the Spirit of God and speaks blessing over Israel, as well as a well-known messianic prophecy:
“A star arises from Jacob…”
This chapter shows that God’s blessing is final and everlasting, and that even a prophet who first intended evil is brought under God’s will.
📌 1. Balaam Lets the Spirit of the Lord Work (verses 1–9)
- Earlier, Balaam tried to seek a “sign” from God, but this time he did not look for omens; instead, he let the Spirit of God come upon him directly.
- He delivered a prophecy:
“How lovely are your tents, O Jacob, your dwellings, O Israel!”
📖 He saw Israel like a fertile valley, a shady tree, and a garden blessed by the Lord.
- Balaam declared:
“Blessed is the one who blesses you, and cursed is the one who curses you.”
(Echoing the Lord’s promise to Abraham, Genesis 12:3)
🎯 Turning away from his original intent, Balaam instead declares admiration and lasting blessing over Israel.
📌 2. Balak Becomes Very Angry (verses 10–14)
- Balak was furious:
“I sent you to curse my enemies, but three times you have blessed them!”
- He sent Balaam away, disappointed, without giving him his reward.
- Balaam answered:
“Did I not tell you that I could speak only what the Lord says?”
🎯 A true prophet does not sell his words for money or popularity.
📌 3. The Prophecy of the Star from Jacob (verses 15–19)
- Balaam delivers a great prophecy about Israel’s future, rich with messianic meaning:
“I see him, but not now; I behold him, but not near:
A star shall come forth from Jacob, and a royal scepter shall rise from Israel.”
📖 This is one of the most famous prophecies about the Messiah in the Old Testament, connected with the coming of Christ (see Matthew 2:2, Revelation 22:16).

Israel will defeat Moab and Edom,
