So then, if there is any encouragement in Christ, if there is any comfort from love, if there is any fellowship of the Spirit, if there is any tenderness and compassion,

then make my joy complete by being of the same mind, having the same love, being one in spirit, one in purpose,

doing nothing from selfish ambition or empty glory, but in humility considering one another better than yourselves;

and let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.

Have this mind among yourselves, which was also in Christ Jesus,

who, though he was in the form of God, did not regard equality with God as something to be held onto,

but emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, and coming to be in the likeness of men.

And being found in human form, he humbled himself and became obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.

My beloved brothers, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence, but much more in my absence, continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling;

For he longed for you all and was distressed because you had heard that he was sick.

Indeed he was sick, near to death; but God had mercy on him, and not on him only but on me also, lest I should have sorrow upon sorrow.

Therefore I sent him the more eagerly, so that when you see him again you may rejoice, and I may be less sorrowful.

Receive him then in the Lord with all joy, and honor such men as these.

For because of the work of Christ he came near to death, risking his life to make up for what was lacking in your service to me.
