To You I lift up my eyes, O You who are enthroned in the heavens.

Behold, as the eyes of servants look to the hand of their master, as the eyes of a maid look to the hand of her mistress, so our eyes look to the LORD our God, until He has mercy on us.

Have mercy on us, O LORD, have mercy on us, for we have had more than enough of contempt;

our soul has had more than enough of the scorn of those who are at ease, of the contempt of the proud.

Psalm 123 is the fourth Song of Ascents (Shir HaMa‘alot), a very short prayer yet full of meaning.
The psalmist expresses complete hope in the Lord, like the eyes of a servant toward his master — a sign of humility, surrender, and full trust.
This psalm is a cry from the oppressed, asking for the Lord’s grace in the midst of contempt and mockery.
