Many a time they have afflicted me from my youth up — let Israel now say —

The LORD is righteous; he has cut asunder the cords of the wicked.

Let all those who hate Zion be put to shame and turned back.

with which the reaper does not fill his hand, nor he who binds sheaves his bosom,

and those who pass by do not say, “The blessing of the LORD be upon you! We bless you in the name of the LORD!”

Psalm 129 is the tenth Song of Ascents, a collective cry of the people of Israel remembering how often they had been oppressed since the nation’s youth, yet never destroyed, because the Lord always breaks the bonds of the enemy.
This psalm also contains a prayer against those who hate Zion, that is, those who oppose the will of God and His people.
📌 1. Israel Has Long Been Oppressed, Yet Could Not Be Destroyed (verses 1–3)
➡️ “Many times they have attacked me from my youth — let Israel now say this.”
➡️ “Yet they could not overcome me.”
➡️ “Plowmen plowed upon my back, making long their furrows.”
🎯 God’s people experience wounds and suffering, but they are never destroyed.
