A Psalm of Asaph.
Surely God is good to those who are pure in heart, to those who are clean in heart.
2
But as for me, my feet had almost slipped; I had nearly stumbled.
3
For I was envious of the boastful when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.
4
For there are no pains in their death; their bodies are healthy and well-fed.
5
They are not in trouble as other men are, and they are not struck down like the rest of mankind.
6
Therefore pride is their necklace, and violence clothes them like a garment.
7
Their eyes bulge from fatness; the imaginations of their hearts overflow.
8
They scoff and speak with malice; from on high they speak of oppression.
9
They set their mouths against heaven, and their tongue struts through the earth.
10
Therefore his people turn to them, and find them abundant water.
11
And they say, “How does God know? Is there knowledge in the Most High?”
12
Behold, these are the wicked: they always increase in wealth, and they are at ease forever!
13
Surely in vain have I kept my heart pure, and washed my hands in innocence.
14
For all day long I have been afflicted, and every morning I am punished.
15
If I had said, “I will speak like that,” I would have betrayed the generation of your children.
16
But when I tried to understand this, it was a hard thing in my sight,
17
until I entered the sanctuary of God, and considered their end.
18
Surely you set them in slippery places; you cast them down to ruin.
19
How they are destroyed in a moment, swept away, utterly consumed by terrors!
20
Like a dream when one awakes, O Lord, when you rise up, you despise their form.
21
When my heart was embittered and my inward parts were pierced,
22
I was foolish and did not understand; I was like a beast before you.
23
Nevertheless, I am continually with you; you hold my right hand.
24
You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will receive me into glory.
25
Whom do I have in heaven but you? And there is nothing on earth that I desire besides you.
26
Though my flesh and my heart fail, God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.
27
For behold, those who are far from you will perish; you destroy all who are unfaithful to you.
28
But as for me, it is good to be near God; I have made the Lord GOD my refuge, that I may tell of all your works.

Psalm 73 is a wisdom psalm by Asaph, which describes the inner struggle of a righteous person when seeing the wicked live in ease.
At first, the psalmist feels shaken and nearly slips because of envy at the prosperity of the wicked, but the turning point comes when he enters the sanctuary of God and understands the end of the lives of the wicked and the righteous.
This psalm is a deep reflection on divine justice, an eternal perspective, and God’s faithfulness in every season of life.
📌 1. The Struggle: Envy of the Wicked (verses 1–14)
➡️ “Surely God is good to the pure in heart…”
➡️ But Asaph nearly stumbled when he saw the wicked living prosperously, healthily, and without trouble.
➡️ He asked: “Was it in vain that I kept my heart clean and washed my hands in innocence?”
