We live in an age where everything can be accessed with one click. Unfortunately, much of what is accessible is far from pure. Social media, movies, music, even billboards often carry messages that blur the lines between right and wrong, between holy and unclean.
As followers of Christ, we are called to live holy and pure, even when the world seems to mock those standards. The Apostle Paul reminds us, “For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality” (1 Thessalonians 4:3). But how can we maintain purity when temptation comes uninvited?
First, we need to realize that purity begins from within the heart, not from the outside. Jesus said, “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God” (Matthew 5:8). This is not just about avoiding wrong sights, but about keeping a clean heart before God.
Purity does not mean naivety, but awareness and vigilance. It does not mean closing our eyes to the world, but knowing when to say “no.” We are called not to flee from the world, but to be present in it as light — without becoming darkness ourselves.
It is important to filter what we consume every day. What we watch, hear, and read will shape our mindset. Proverbs 4:23 says, “Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.” If our hearts are filled with unclean things, then purity will be difficult to maintain.
Purity is also not a struggle we face alone. The Holy Spirit is our helper, giving us strength to resist sin and guiding us to live a holy life. So, do not be ashamed to pray every day, “Lord, cleanse my heart. Teach me to hate sin as You hate it.”
In a world that has lost moral standards, believers are called to be different. Not because we are holier, but because Christ has redeemed and sanctified us to live with a divine purpose.
